Ideally located on the beach 10 or so kilometres east of Limassol and a short taxi ride to the touist area of Yeramessoyas. Staff very friendly; many remembered us from a previous visit! The pool area which leads down to a sandy beach is Quite lovely. The rooms are adequate and the air con is efficient. Evening meals are better taken outwith the hotel with the popular Mamas taverna within a short stroll and many other eateries to try out. For a special occasion we wold recommend the Terra Mare which is located opposite the Hawaii Grand {£6 or so in a cab}

Historical Traveller Reviews of Mediterranean Beach Hotel

We enjoyed it.

from JMThomas
We have just returned from an 11 night stay at the Mediterranean Beach Hotel in Limmasol. Luckily I had not seen the review from the trip advisor who visited in June and had such an unpleasant time. We really liked the hotel - we had a sea/pool facing room which was worth the extra cost in my opinion (although our sons had a road facing room and did not complain of any noise - of course they can usually sleep through anthing, especially after some late nights!
As others have said already - the pool was great, we never had any problem finding sun beds (5) at any time so not sure what happened in June to the other trip advsior as I would expect July to be busier? Breakfast was great - so much choice and the pool bar staff and the spa staff pleasant and helpful.
Any gripes? Well, we did have a problem with a noisey air conditioning unit and it took a little while to get it sorted out - the problem was intermittent and we were told twice that there was nothing wrong with it so that my husband had to insist that someone stay in the room with him until the noise started up again - this then led to us having a whole new unit fitted, without further delay. Also, as another trip advisor has written, we didn't find the reception staff to be very friendly - there were a couple of them who were smug and unhelpful (about the air conditioning unit) - but certainly this was not all of them. Also, upon check -out I found that we had not had the CYP£20 deposit for the use of the pool towels (that is automatically debited to you on check-in)credited to our final bill and there had been a mistake with a charge for the boys watching a film. However that didn't affect our overall view of the hotel - it was really nice and is, in my opinion, pleasantly located out of the centre of Limmasol which I happily avoided for most of the time! A final note - if anyone is looking to learn to scuba dive I would thoroughly recommend Dive-In who are located at the Four Seasons (next door) but who have a small satellite office at the Med Beach - Phil and Claire taught our 3 sons and made their holiday complete!

best hotel ever!

I stayed at this hotel between 2nd and 9th july. Me and my partner stayed in a room facing 'the noisy road' after reading reviews before we went we were dreading our first night. But to our suprise we didnt hear a thing all night, nor did we throughout our holiday! as long as your balcony doors are shut you cannot hear a thing!

We were only b&b and the selection of different foods were excellent! after breakfast we would head for the pool, and we didint have a problem finding sunloungers at all, there were so many - (around the pool, on the grass, on the grass towards the beach) that there wasnt a problem at any time of the day. The swimming pool was lovely!

The only bad thing i can think of about the hotel is where it was situated, there wasnt much you could do in walking distance, we even tried walking into limasol one evening but after walking nearly an hour we had only just got to mcds, so we turned back!

Overall an excellent hotel, would go back again!

Thank God for Trip Advisor!

After booking a holiday for my husband and I to this hotel, somebody referred me to Trip Advisor`s website, where to my horror I read the reviews on it. I had booked an inland room without realising the implications of the heavy traffic noise promised. I decided to ring the Hotel direct from the UK to change my booking to a sea view room. I spoke to a very helpful receptionist called Isabella who informed me that there were no rooms with a sea or pool view available for the dates we had booked. She assured me that she would make a note of my request and do her best to accomodate us.

The day of our holiday arrived and with trepidation we checked in. Isabella had been true to her word and altered our booking. Not only did we have a sea/pool view room but it was a superior room with a sofa bed, two armchairs, and an annexe containing bunk beds. We also had tea and coffee making facilities.

The extra charge for this was 20 Cypriot pounds per night and worth every penny!

The Hotel was lovely, and breakfast very varied (we were b&b only). We didn`t have a problem at all finding sunbeds at any time of day - they were in abundance. The pool area was clean and enticing and the temperature of the water perfect.

If I were to be hypercritical, my only gripes were that the bathroom in the room was a bit dated, and the reception staff (Isabella excluded of course! - and yes we did get to meet her to thank her - and she did remember my call) needed to go to Charm School. They didn`t know how to smile.
So I say, make sure you have a sea/pool view and look forward to a lovely holiday. We certainly enjoyed ours!

Simply great

from Jasmo
After reading a bad review I have to say that the Mediterranean beach is not at all as bad as described. My fiancee and I have just returned from the hotel and had a wonderful time. The hotel was clean and the staff were very polite and helpful.

We booked and inland view room and luckily it faced the gardens so we did not hear much traffic. It is true, the traffic along the Limassol strip is constant so I can understand how fustrating this can get if your room faces the road. The room was spacious, and yes, it didn't have the coffee making facilities or great TV, but for us, there was much more to do outside the room than watch TV. The rooms were also made every day with fresh towels.

Breakfast was fantastic. The same food was put on everyday, but this didn't really matter because there was a choice from Danish pastries, english breakfast, continental breakfast, mediterranian foods and waffles/omelettes cooked infront of you.

As for the hotel facilities itself, the gym was adequate for exercise, and not many people were using it , so we had it all to ourselves. There was an indoor pool, a health spa, and tennis courts. There was also a large chessboard, ping pong table and arcade games for those with children. There are several restaurants, but in hotel style were more expensive if not on HB/AI.

As for the pool, we found it to be clean and well staffed. There is a kids pool area with kids playing/crying, but what do you expect when you have booked to stay in a large resort hotel that accepts kids? As for the sunbeds, whatever time of day we honestly always found somewhere to lie on.

Overall we were extremely happy with the hotel. It is a great base if you are an explorer with a car. We had a couple of days exploring without a car and ended up on Lady's mile beach with no way back (luckily a friendly cypriot helped us out) so a car is really essential to get to the good spots. There are buses, but the ones that take you to the must see tourist areas are few and far between. We went to Pafos, Akamas and Troodos mountains, the latter a must. As for food, we found limassol prices were inflated compared to smaller towns, but this is expected. Cyprus prices tend to be on par with English prices too e.g. bus ride 80c - 1.50. If you turn left out of the hotel and walk down the road for about 5-10 minutes, we found that meals were slightly cheaper.

One more thing, if you are looking for fresh fish, Zygi is a GREAT place for it (30km east of the hotel). The Captain's Tavern catch the fish on their private pier for the restaurant - fantastic!

We would recommend this hotel to others, but if don't go to Limassol there if you are trying to avoid the crowds. After venturing around Cyprus, the North-west seemed less overdeveloped (beyond paphos), so thats our next stop!

Terrible hotel!!!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
I have just returned from the Mediterranean Beach Hotel last night. I stayed there for 7 night with Thomas Cook.

My first night i arrived at the hotel around 22.30 hrs after a 4 hour plane flight from the United Kingdom. I was given a blue card to enter into the room only to be given a room facing the road (after i booked a sea view room) and unpacked co's it was too late to do anything about it. i then rang reception for a coffee again BIG dissapointment as there are NO tea/coffee making facilties??? i ordered room sevice for a coffee? NO CHANCE i was told its too late it closes after 23.00hrs? by this time it was only around 22.50hrs???

I then thought ok i will stick the tv on.... and guess what!!! nothing??? the tv didnt work!!!
by this time i was tired and well pissed off before my holiday had even started.
I then rang reception again and told them the TV didnt work. I was told they would send someone straight away. anyway half hour later still no one came? i then went storming off to see the manager. i told him in no uncertain terms that i was going to get a coffee and i wanted the TV fixed. he sent someone along with me to fix the TV which turned out to be the battery gone in the remote control. and i was given a cup of coffee free of charge.
I then went to my room thinking great things are looking up. HOW WRONG WAS I????

i was really tired and thought i would get into bed and sort everything out in the morning.
then all of a sudden music blaring out from downstairs some bloke had decided to start the entertainment?? then there were kids in the corridors screaming and shouting.
it was about 01.00hrs by this time and i just put the pillow over my head and fell alseep.

next morning i woke to a lovely breakfast which is served between 07.00 - 10.00hrs baring in mind that 07.00hrs is infact 05.00hrs in the UK due to the 2 hour time difference.
i grabbed my towel after breakfast and headed for the sun loungers? only to find they all had been taken or reserved with beach towels!!!! this happened every morning and i was infact lucky once to get a lounger??

the noise level at night times is terrible with unresponsible parents not keeping control of there kids. and no i know kids should have holidays etc etc.... but this was beyong acceptable parental behaviour.

If you would like a holiday where you like loud noise til 02.00hrs and beyond and also if you like to seek the sun somewhere in a corner of the hotel and also if you like to watch TV or should i say BBC NEWS WORLD 24 hrs a day due to there being no other english tv then this is the holiday for you.
If you would like a relaxing holiday where you can soak up the sun and enjoy yourself then i suggest you look somewhere other than the Mediterranean Beach Hotel.

Limissol is a nice place though and i would go back but just not to that hotel.
cheers and hope this review helps.

PS do not go anywhere near a room facing the road else you just wont get any sleep with road noise and taxi pipping there horns all hours and also a bar across the road called Franx have a kareoke which dont finish til 02.00hrs and yes you can hear all word for word.

Superb facilities and comfort - but book a sea view!

from djdamesWales_UK
I stayed at the Med Beach with a large group for our wedding/ honeymoon during Easter 2006. I would say in summary about this hotel that it offers excellent facilities and accommodation, and it has earned its 4* rating. Provided you are in a sea view room I think you'll have a relaxing and enjoyable time here.
To break it down then....
Communal areas: The lobby, restaurants, bars etc. are all immaculate, upmarket, and pretty expensive.
Facilities: Good gym in the health complex with beautiful indoor pool area, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room (£4 for the day) - pool and gym are free. We actually used the indoor pool a lot as its open till 8 and is right next to the outdoor pool. There are lots of massage treatments etc.
The outdoor pool area is one of the hotels best features and there are always plenty of sun loungers. The pool is a bit on the cool side.
Food: I only had breakfast here, this was excellent, with a great choice including the full english components, german breakfast, pastries, fruit, juices, toasts, waffles etc etc.....
Staff: Very helpful, courteous and swift to respond to any issues.
Rooms: Very clean and smart, perhaps a little on the small side but not a problem. We had a problem with ants in our room, and part of the wardrobe fell off but not something to have any major impact on our holiday.
One thing missing is tea making facilities - they charge £3 a day to have this facility!
The hotel is undergoing a lot of upgrading work at the moment which caused some disturbance. There is also no internet terminal in the hotel which seems odd considering they have everything else....
Several of our group were in the inland view rooms. I can honestly say I would never stay in an inland view room at this hotel. You are directly over the noisiest road I have ever heard in my life, and I consider myself very well travelled! This is not of course the hotels fault, but its important I think to know that the road from about 7pm turns into a hot-rod race track. All night long boy racers tear up and down this stretch of road at full throttle and without silencers.....please take earplugs unless you are a very heavy sleeper. To give some idea I actually heard the cars racing from my sea view room on the other side of the hotel one night!
For this reason I think its possible to have a completely different experience staying at the med beach depending on whether you stay on the beautiful quiet sea view or the grand prix circuit rooms.....I did overhear some guests saying that were going back to the airport instead of having to stay by the road.
What else can I say? We had a fabulous time here, it was a perfect setting for our wedding photos with numerous locations to take beautiful photographs.
The location? Limassol itself is a huge sprawling town which you are thankfully away from in Amathus, there are watersports here and a nice seafront path. The beach is OK, dark sand and average or poor visibility in the water. Nevertheless the view of the vast expanse of Mediterranean sea makes you feel like you are on the edge of the world and is very attractive. The location is a good base to explore Cyprus which we did. We visited the Troodos mountains, Polis/Akamas and Protaras/Agia Napa all of which I recommend. I would recommend an overnight stay on the East Coast as there are so many beautiful stretches of coastline to explore.
The immediate area of the med beach consists of a number of bars and restaurants - I personally recommend the Deane restaurant and Mamas.
If you're getting married I heartily recommend Evelyn at Cyprus 4 weddings - I cannot praise her services enough.
So that's my opinion I have tried to be as balanced as possible, I would stay at the hotel again (in a sea view) but probably arrange flights separately and deal directly with the hotel to cut costs. I didn't want to leave the hotel as it is such a nice place to relax and enjoy yourself.

ll be back

from A TripAdvisor Member
we have just returned from the med beach in limassol. the hotel is immaculate having just had a complete renovation of public areas. half the rooms are still to be done. we were put in an "inland view room" by inland they mean the busy road which never seems to go quiet, at any time of day or night.

we paid £250 for the remaining 13 nights to upgrade to superior sea and pool view room on the top floor. and this room was so nice and with such a lovely view that as soon as we saw it we had to have it.
the staff here were beyond belief in their attention and dedication to service. within a couple of days we knew quite a few by name and they always treated you like a long lost friend. but you were still the guest and nothing was too much trouble. the food was excellent, a different themed buffet every night, beautifully presented and freshley cooked, even the desserts were made fresh by the hotels chefs, i am a chef and i took great interest in the food and spoke to a few of the chefs and also came away with some great ideas for when i get back to work in my kitchen.

the hotel has one of the best pool areas i have seen.but. it was very cold. my partner went in a few times but i could not as it was so cold i might have emerged less of a man than when i went in. however the indoor pool was a welcome alternative.

the hotel is located about 8 miles outside of limassol old town and we should know as we walked the whole distance once and had the blisters to prove it. the next time we took the bus(no 30) which was much quicker. i would recomend you hire a car. the motorways are very quiet and not as scarey as some roads. all roads are very well signed in english, and you do need to see some more of this wonderful island. just the drive up troodos is enough to scare the hardest of drivers but is something you cant miss. we went in april and it was 23 degrees at our hotel but up troodos it was 3 degrees and it was snowing. where else could you get this????

we took the opportunity to go on an organised trip to the turkish occupied north of the island. it was a very strange experience but not one to be missed, on the way there the rep informed us all about the political situation of the island which is unusual.

altogether an excellent holiday and a hotel that we will return to.

Not Great

We recently stayed at the Mediterranean Beach Hotel and unfortunately didn't really enjoy our stay that much. The hotel is just not what we had hoped for.Staff tried but that something special was missing.

Nice Hotel, great staff

from ctsw2001
We just got back from The Mediterranean Hotel last night.

We had booked the hotel as a package deal with Thomas Cook. We had booked a non sea view room as it was an extra £200+ with Thomas Cook. When we arrived (45 mins transfer) we were located in a room that faced the busy main road.

We spoke to reception who offered us a full sea view for £100 for the week, a lot cheaper than Thomas Cook.

The breakfast offered an overall good selection, but as the clientele was mixed with German, Russian & English the choices were suited to those tastes.

The pool area was great with a large indoor pool when it was a bit cold outside. The beach itself is small but the water is crystal clear and calm.

We didn't go for the HB option as it was too expensive.

We had a slight issue with the Air Con in the room which switched to Heating from the start of November, but as soon as we brought it to the attention of the management they offer a fan and then another room which didn't attract a lot of direct sunlight. They also refunded our £100 room upgrade for our inconvenience. TOP MARKS

Would go back again, and recommend it to others. Remember if your not happy about something just ask !!

I was pleasantly surprised!

from KR61
I spent a week at the Mediterranean Beach Hotel during school half term with my family (wife and boys aged 2 and 8, my parents and my sister and brother-in-law). I was hoping to go to the Paphos area but limited availability with flights meant that we had to fly to Larnaca. Given the 4 hour flight time, the last thing we wanted was to drive to Paphos so Limassol seemed a reasoanble compromise. I read a large number of hotel reviews of varying classes and chose the Mediterranean Beach Hotel mainly based on the reviews on this website. I have to say it worked out exremely well. Everyone had a great holiday. We spent everyday bar one at the hotel as we just wanted to relax. We would certainly recommend it if unless you are specifically wanting a 5b star hotel and are prepared to pay a lot more.

Rooms: We had sea view rooms which also overlooked the pool -highly recommended. The inland voew rooms overlook a busy road and should be avoided. The hotel pushes upgrades to the seaview and superior rooms at reasonable rates so if you are on a budget you could always wait book the cheaper room and then upgrade if you can be bothered. The overall standard of the rooms was good. We had an interconnecting room because of the children and it was great. The bathroom could probably do with a makeover. Importantly it was clean.

Restaurant: I have to say that, despite all the negative reviews that I had read about the restaurants, that the food was quite good (again not 5 star but fine). We took the half board option given the size of our group and that fact that my father was not very mobile. Again this suited us but for those wanting to get out and about there is no shortage of tavernas within walking distance.

Facilities: The pool was great. Although it was colder than the sea, it was still ok temparature wise.
There were plenty of sunbeds. The beach was nice. Again plenty of sunbeds. There was wheelchair access right down to the beach front but it means negotiating quite a slope so you would need to be reasonably strong to push the person uphill.

The hotel is well presented with a good location. Well worth a visit if you can't decide where to stay!
