My Mum had her wedding in Cyprus and this where all the wedding party stayed. Fantastic hotel, rooms very clean and spacious, staff helpful and friendly, there is a great pub opposite called Chesters which serves delicious foods and drinks as it is a little expensive at the hotel. Only slight downside is the location of the hotel, if you are looking for a lively holiday it is not in walking distance of the tourist or old town area but taxis are pretty cheap.

Great Hotel

from BKJDublin_Ireland
We stayed in the Hawaii Grand Hotel for 2 weeks from June 30 2007 and could not fault the hotel in any way. The purpose of our stay in the hotel was for our wedding which took place in Limassol town and the reception in the Hawaii Grand.

We found all staff in the hotel to be extremely helpful, polite and friendly; and were always available to deal with us when necessary while making preparations for our reception. The decor, and effort made on the room, for our reception was even better than we had expected.

I'd recommend the sea view upgrade as the view of the sea each morning was a view to kill for.

The hotel was spotless and our rooms cleaned daily.

Great wedding and many thanks to all the staff who helped make it a wonderful day.

Would highly recommend this hotel for people planning a hoilday or wedding in Cyprus.

Not worth it!

from JAHGR
We have just returned from our holiday from 27th June - 5th July. It was actually our honeymoon and I emailed them before we went as they say they give flowers, fresh fruit etc. None of this was there! We paid extra for a sea view room and could just about see the top of the sea over the trees. We honestly did not think we had been given a sea view room, and we went to the reception to ask and we had this really incompetant girl there who did not really have a clue what she was doing. She was not polite, helpful or anything. Basically the room we were in was actually a sea view room and we were not happy about it. They didn't change our room either. To say you pay extra for a sea view room and then you can just about make it out is not good really, especially on your honeymoon! I agree that the hotel looks a lot grander on the website than what it really is. The room did not have enough drawer/cupboard space. We did enjoy our holiday though - the pool area was great and we loved how it went down onto the beach (although I got bit like mad on the beach!). The breakfast at the hotel was brilliant and the one and only helpful person at the hotel was the Head Waitress person. She was fantastic. As soon as you got in there she was finding you somewhere to sit, getting you coffee, fussing over our son and getting him hot chocolate. She was great. We only ate once at the hotel during the evening and that was the Japanese. It was absolutely beautiful and not really too expensive, although the other restaurants and drinks in the bars were way overpriced. We often went over the road for meals and for a few drinks. The best restaurant was Santana. The owners were lovely and the food perfect. We went to a pub over the road called Chesters and that was good too. Just like an English pub really.

As I say, we did have a fantastic holiday but we would not return to the Hawaii Grand. It is definitely not a 5*, I don't think. It is clean though & you can always get a sun bed. I think the staff spoil it if I'm honest. They are the most miserable and unhelpful people I've ever come into contact with on holiday. I even commented to my new husband that they shouldn't be in a job like this if that is how they are. No-one really acknowledged our five year old. There were no smiles, no "congratulations on your wedding" or anything like that. If you are going please do not pay extra for a sea view room because it really is not worth it.

Not family orientated.

from hayley_hobson
We stayed at the Hawaii Grand for two weeks, from 13th-27th June 2007 for my Brothers wedding, which was wonderful, the hotel being an ideallic place for a wedding.

Upon arrival the hotel is very grand looking, the reception area, bars, restaurants and lounges are very impressive. The most impressive part of the hotel for us was the pool area, leading down onto the beach. The pool is stunning and because we have small children, the childrens pool was especially wonderful.

Our room was a standard room, and although it was quite small it was adequate for me, my partner and our 2 children.

The cleanliness of the hotel cannot be disputed.

The hotel however, is not at all family orientated, it is more of a professional hotel. The lifts are extremely dangerous, especially for
small children because they do not detect them. Our daughters hand was dragged in by the doors, and the management did not care at all, not even offering an apology.

There is no entertainment for hotel guests unless you eat in the restaurant, even then it was nothing to be boasted about!

The breakfast was really good, there was a lot of variety. I cannot comment on the other food offered in the many restaurants throughout the hotel as we found them quite overpriced, so found elsewhere to eat.

Staff: As you find anywhere you go there were a certain few staff members who were extremely helpful and pleasant but overall most members of staff were fairly ignorant and miserable.

Overall, we had a good holiday but would not go back to the Hawaii Grand beacause of the lack of facilities for children. The hotel in my mind would not be classed as five star, but on its way.

Fantastic Holiday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

from 27m24f
Having read some of the previous reviews, my girlfriend and I were not sure what to expect to our eagerly awaited arrival at the Hawaii Grand. Now I have to admit we are not usual visitors to 5* hotels but we found this hotel was superb in every way. On arrival the hotel's reception and lobby areas were very impressive. Our room was clean and comfortable, which is all we ask when on holiday. I expect that other 5* hotel guest rooms are more lavish and perhaps why some feel disappointed. But I would rather pay far less than other well named hotels in the area and have a perfectly comfortable room, but also have 5* star hotel facilities, ie gardens (beautiful), pool area and bar/restaurant areas. We have avoided 5* hotels due to feeling they were over priced and maybe quite snobby. The Hawaii Grand was neither and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Can't comment on the food (apart from breakfast which was excellent, all tastes catered for), as we prefer to eat out. Strongly recommend the Terre Mare (opposite hotel), pay roughly £20-£25 each for a fantastic 4 course meal. Start with choice of 2 soups, then superb self-service salad, followed by choice of main and sweet. Dont worry you get the option of a rest in between courses, you will need it!

Opposite the hotel is the best pub/bar we have been to in Cyprus called Chesters. Great for a drink or 10, also good all day food menu. The hotel is situated 5-10 mins drive from Limassol but still plenty in the area. Molly Malones Irish bar another good venue up road. Embres restaurant next to Chesters was very good, and one round corner Santana was enjoyable (tried meat meze). An impressive looking Japanese restauant also next to Chesters (not our taste of food so cant comment) and in the future a chinese restaurant is being developed. We also got a taxi a couple of times up the road around the Four Seasons and Amathus Beach Hotels (about 5 mins) and found more geat little restaurants (good Italian opposite Amathus Beach). If you are looking for something more lively head to Limassol itself, depends what you want from your holiday.

Hawaii Grand distinctly average!

from anniebSurrey
On arrival I was taken to my "superior sea facing room" it was on the first floor, tiny and if I stood on my toes I could see the sea. After complaining to a very irritated receptionist I was taken to an exact copy of the room I was shown. Eventualy I was taken to a larger room on the third floor with a good view. However the cleanliness of the rooms is nothing they should be proud of.
Most of the staff were friendly but the reception staff were clearly not going to forgive me for daring to complain.
The food at this hotel is distinctly average and over priced.
After my second day my travel agents booked me into the Le Meridien Hotel and what a difference, this hotel deserved its 5 star but the Hawaiie Grand is very average. I would not recommend this hotel.

It grows on you...

from TheTravelingTaxman
I was at the Hawaii Grand for a three day business meeting and must say it turned out quite nicely.

The lobby, bar, restaurant and meeting facilities are all top notch. The room, at first, was somewhat dissappointing... it's OK and has everything you want, including good views of the sea, but it's missing that "wow!" factor you expect in a 5-star.

After a few days, the place does grow on you however, and I found myself sad to leave. The pool and surrounding area is especially nice. The beach is OK at best.... this is definitely not the Caribbean

Really a four star hotel posing as a five star, but still very nice.

You Get What You Pay For!

from laurenSurrey
We have just returned from a week at the Hawaii, first impressions are very good with a nice reception area. We arrived late at night so we went straight to our room which was a good size, there were 3 of us sharing a room and we all had a proper bed ,not a put up one. the only thing about the room was there wasn't alot of cupboard and draw space and the bathroom is very basic. But it was clean. the main thing that lets this hotel down is the staff and service at this hotel. For a 5* hotel its very poor. But i guess you get what you pay for. I stay every Year at The Four Seasons up the road which is a bit more money but worth every penny. The Hawaii is nice but its not a 5* when compared to the Four Seasons. Im just pleased i still have that one to look forward to in July. One piece of advice when staying at the Hawaii just do Bed and Breakfast. there are a couple of lovely restaurants just accross the road. ( Embers And Terra Marre) also a short bus ride up the road you will find even more good places to eat. The buses run every 20mins and cost 80p. The hotel is not all bad just don't expect a 5* and you will be Quite happy. there are plenty of sun beds and for a small tip to Elias the pool attendant he will save your favourite spot each morning. (he was one of the nicer staff).

Horrible experience

from KoenBrussels
In few words : not a five star rating worth. Poor service, dirty rooms,... The so called suites are located next to lobby, noise is all around ! The dining is Falwty Towers style, except the Sushi bar in the lobby. One advice : stay away !

Disappointing stay at the Hawaii Grand

from JFA16
Despite its billing I would not describe the Hawaii Grand as a 5 star hotel - it' s nowhere near as good as it thinks it is. First appearances are good, with a spacious, well decorated lobby/bar area but the bedrooms are tiny, with paper thin walls allowing you to hear everything (conversations, nocturnal activities and all bathroom functions) carried on in nearby rooms (adjacent and upstairs). All doors appear to be specially set to slam or rumble as they are opened or closed. The beds are hard and the covers are stained. On peeling back the cover you discover a thin, brown and bobbly blanket which has obviously been well used, although the linen appears to be changed every day. Some of the staff are lovely, others, mainly on the reception desk and in the breakfast room, are surly and unhelpful. If you are not at breakfast by 10 precisely you stand no chance - the lights are off and the tables are cleared at 10.01. You also sit at a table covered by a cloth stained by the breakfasts of those who have eaten before you (hopefully that day, but who knows). The coffee is vile, but if you ask for a Cappucino they will bring something drinkable. The lobby/bar is pleasant for a drink which is just as well as the music in the bar, which is decorated as you would imagine a brothel to look, is very poor. The hotel location is also strange, next to a few other "nice" hotels, but alongside a busy road on the outskirts of Limassol (which is not really a holiday resort but is convenient for getting just about anywhere else on the island). Thankfully there are some decent restaurants just across the street (Lisa's, Embers and the Zen Room) and an Irish bar (Molly Malone's) which make it bearable. As it was our first stay on the island I don't know how it compares to other hotels in Cyprus, but I would not mention it in the same breath as other, genuine 5 star hotels I have stayed in around the world.

Grand Time Indeed!

from GeorginaWales
My husband and I stayed at the Hawaii in September 2006 and had a fabulous week in the sun. The hotel and it's grounds were always clean and well presented. The poolside was always well attended by staff to accomodate your needs, and sunbeds were aplenty.
Food catered to everyone's needs and there are numerous restaurant's catering from snacks to a la carte, depending on your mood, although you may tend to find that the fantastic breakfast will set you up for the day ahead!
Having previously visited other 5 star hotels in the viscinity, which can be a little pretencious, I would thoroughly recommend the Hawaii to anyone who enjoys a touch of luxury without going overboard.
Possibly the most impressive part of the hotel - for us - was the staff who could not do enough for you, from the poolside assistants to the gym instructors right up to the managers, who were always on hand to ensure your stay was flawless. Not so much of a hotel, more of a home from home! A thoroughly enjoyable stay, which will no doubt be repeated in the near future.

Top Local Tips for Limassol

Santana Go to the Santana restaurant across the road to Hawaii Grand hotel. Small, family owned and is superb. Very friendly family too.

Get around! Make sure you hire a car. Everything in Cyprus is only 1 hour max drive from Limassol. It is the perfect base for travelling around the island.

Limassol Full of Russians and Polish, topless bars but also there are some great trendy bars.... Not great shopping, no market, very limited good 5 star restaurants, not really impressed. You don't go there for food or things to spend your money on!
