Historical Traveller Reviews of Hotel Pia Bella

Friendly hotel

from vixenval
The Pia Bella is a nice, friendly hotel. Rooms were spotless. The staff are friendly. Only had breakfast there so can't comment on evening meals.

There was a heat wave the first week we went temperatures sometimes 45 degrees and very humid, the second week was more bearable.

Two good restaurants are Sele and Peanuts. Both recommended to us by word of mouth. When you go to Peanuts, you'll see the signpost on the way into town (Just over halfway there). We thought we were going to the wrong place as it goes through a building site. Just keep going you will be surprised when you get there. It is right on the sea front.

The Blue Rose Restaurant, just behind Pia Bella is ok too and their Bistro just down the road makes a lovely pizza. We found an Irish bar there too, Shamrock. Nice place. friendly staff, but understaffed so sometimes there were meals, sometimes not, but we didn't mind.

We did not hire a car (probably good to do so) so probably missed the best bits of the island. But did use the Taksi's there, just by the roundabout in town and travelled to Famagusta for 12 YTL return each. Also went to Nicosia by same method. The place is nice enough but the world is a big place, so probably wouldn't return. The people there are one of the friendliest we have met though.

Our time spent at the Pia Bella was the most enjoyable and relaxing holiday that we have ever had.
The staff were attentive, friendly, hard working, funny and genuine.
The hotel is situated about a fifteen minute walk from the harbour and has lots of restaurants and delis etc close by.
Food at the hotel is superb. You are spolit for choice with the selections at breakfast and the al' carte menu on an evening is delicious.
We can't speak highly enough of this hotel and their staff.

Good Hotel with outstanding service

from Worslesr
The Pia Bella is located about 15 minutes walk back from the harbour in Kyrenia. It is situated in a mainly residential area and off a busy road but as soon as you step through the doors you know you have stepped into a secret oasis.

The hotel has extensive grounds with two swimming pools set in a small citrus and fir tree grove. Once in the grounds you are cocooned away from the hustle and bustle outside (not that North Cyprus has a lot of hustle and bustle).

I stayed in a superior room that is meant to be better furnished and slightly larger than standard. My room could have been considered almost as an apartment as it had a fridge (designated as a mini bar but actually a full sized fridge), stainless steel sink and drainer, 2 burner electric hob and kitchen cupboard and kettle. Rooms are also equipped with air conditioning and an electronic safe (cost £5 sterling per fortnight to use).

Dining is currently al fresco (a new dining room is being built). We stayed bed and breakfast. For breakfast there was extensive choice of cold buffet items and a limited choice of cooked items set out in buffet fashion. We did dine at the hotel for an evening meal on one occasion. The food was good although there was a limited choice designed mainly for those guests that had booked on half board. If this hotel lacked anything it is the lack of a full al a carte restaurant.

There is a large outdoor bar area where there is occasional entertainment (twice weekly when we were there) and bar prices are surprisingly competitive for a 4 star hotel.

Where this hotel really stands out is on its standards of service, cleanliness and friendliness. It is very noticeable that a very large proportion of the visitors to this hotel come back time and time again (two couples we met had come back for 9 consecutive years). Every morning over breakfast the manageress makes a point of saying hello to every guest and asking if there were any issues that she could help with. On the one occasion I had a problem with a leaking air conditioning unit I had the deputy manageress knocking on my door within 2 minutes of me reporting the problem, quickly followed by the cleaning staff to clean up the mess, closely followed by the engineer who had rectified the problem within 20 minutes.

There is some building going on at the Pia Bella to add more rooms, a Casino, a new dining area and indoor pool. This however didn’t disturb our stay. Only time will tell if the additions changes the character of the place. Overall facilities at the Pia Bella are about what you would expect of a good four star hotel except for the current lack of an al a carte restaurant but this more than made up by exceptional service.

Changes to Pia Bella

from ttoli
For info ; The new accomodation block is finished, but they are converting the old restauant into a casino at the moment, some rooms are above and the workmen start at 0800 and finish at 1800, they dont
have a completion date as yet but i cant honestly see it being done before September, if anyone has a booking request NEW building, aside
from that its probably one of the most efficently run hotels over here.

Good value

from ilovegoldens
We stayed here for an early Autum break in 2005. The weather was great at that time. The only downside of this hotel is that it is a little walk out of town (about 20 minutes along a busy road). The first room we were allocated overlooked the street and was quite noisy and uninspiring, but on request to move to a pool view we were allocated a lovely room with a brilliant outlook. The staff were very friendly and the food ok but not brilliant. Mainly British guests, who were mostly in the 50-65 age group/ Kyrenia is a pretty town, but hire a car and venture further afield too - worth the effort. Would return to Kyrenia at some future time, but only when its possible to fly direct. We had to touch down in Antalya and it added about an hour to the journey both ways.

Do Not Go Here At The Minute...

from GimmeSomeSun
We read all the reviews of this hotel from this website and having just spent 9 nights at this hotel, I must admit I dont agree wth the majority of comments.

The biggest problem with this hotel at the minute is the fact that this hotel is currently undergoing a lot of heavy building work to build a new set of apartments next to the front pool.We saw nearly ever new arrival speaking to their rep complaining about the noise and asking to be moved - as we did!)

We were woken up every morning between 8 and 8.30 am by the sound of heavy masonary drilling and hammering into brick. The building works are meters away from the pool area and rooms, very unpleasant! Room standards were adequate, but the superior rooms were certainly not that. Beds very uncomfortable and unstable, toilet seat loose, broken bins, you have to pay for the use of the room safe, and you are not permitted to use the minibar fridge for any of your own supplies(Water, drinks chocolate etc!)

There were no available sunbeds first day (although at the end of the week, more sunbeds were bought) and if you dont get a sunbed at the top pool, you are forced to get a sunbed at the bottom pool where you are directly overlooked, and looking onto, the ongoing building site a few feet away.

Breakfast wasn't overly impressive to the tune that we couldn't be bothered to get out of bed to make it. Selection of breads and jams, olives and cheeses etc. Dinner at night was also average although the service was friendly enough.

The location is good, being a 15 min walk into the harbour at night, but a word of warning, there are no straight or even pavements here. If there are any pavements, there are a multitude of obstacles like sunken drains, collapsed brickwork and high kerbs to overcome, so take and wear suitable footwear.

All in all, when the building work is completed (1 year, not quite sure) this will be a nice place to stay but in the meantime it may be more advisable to choose another hotel.

Pia Bella Fantastic Hotel and staff

from shopaholics2
We have just returned from our trip to Northern ~Cyprus and we stayed at the Pia Bella as we did last time 3 years ago. Last time we stayed in Sept. Lot's of the staff are still there like Ali and his wife Phillis to name only 2. Every single member of staff from the cleaners to the managers are so attentive they make everyne feel they are very special. Nothing at all is too much trouble. The cleanleness is 2nd to none. The towels in your rooms changed every other day and the shower curtain was changed twice in the 11 nights we were there and i've never known that anywhere else.
We stayed b&b but had about 4 meals in the Resturant in the hotel from the a'la cart menu. The food was the best we had and each time we went to another resturant it wasn't as goo as the Pia Bella. We did go to the resturant facing the Dome hotel as it's a good reputation and was very very dissapointed. The waiter was rude and abrupt and the food was below average and we would NOT recomend anyone to go. There is building work at the Pia Bella which should be finnished soon but I can say it didn't spoil our holiday they do everything to make sure it doesnt. It will be lovely when finnished.
We did see lots' of new buildings and lots going on arround and about Kyrinia and I hope they stop soon. There are too many buying holiday homes and we loved it for the fact it's not comercialised and unspoilt. If you want lots of bars and nightly entertainment it's not the place for you. There are lovely resturants and places to sit and have good food. We will visit again in a few years and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else.

Pia Bella was a great experience.

from ESEK
We stayed in Pia Bella for one night, as we travelled around North Cyprus for the second week of our stay. ( We also stayed in Palm Beach, Famagusta and Salamis Bay Conti Hotel. ) Our room had a view of the mountains, and was very tastefully decorated, I forgot to take photos, alas. Th breakfast buffet was amazing, and room service food also beautiful. There was a very helpful male member of staff, forgot to find out his name, if he wasn't the manager, he should be. We'd definitely stay here again. I think it was around £40 a night, which was very reasonable.

A very well managed hotel

from Gosman
My wife and I last stayed at the Pia Bella 8 years ago. It was comfortable then. In recent years the hotel has been extended and now has better facilities and is very comfortable (superior room). Everything worked and small problems were dealt with very speedily. The big impression of Pia Bella is the quality of the staff. All do their jobs very well but they combine this with a friendliness and a care for the customer which is quite exceptional. The hotel has two well cared for pools. Rooms, particularly in the new building, are quiet at night (we both slept very well). The Dinner (table d'hote) was very good and very good value. It reflected a local rather than international style of cooking.
A la carte is also available. Breakfast we note has been criticised in some other reviews but the choice is wide enough and is a breakfast in the local style. At breakfast the quality of tea, coffee and 'fruit juices' could be improved, however. During our stay there were a number of storms which produced debris in the garden and pool area. The staff constantly cleaned this, and to a very high standard. This goes for the standard of cleanliness and maintenence throughout the hotel - in our experience, again, exceptional. Overall a very pleasant place to stay at a very reasonable tariff.

Fantastic Pia Bella

from SB201
I have just returned from a two week holiday in Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus. I stayed in the hotel Pia Bella and it now ranks up there as a "Must Stay" hotel.
The staff very quickly become your friends and they cannot do enough for you!
I would like to thank everyone at the hotel who made my stay so memorable. I neglected to ask them all their names, but those who I now know personally are Murat, Phylis and Ali.
My apologies to the others for for not knowing your names, I wish I had asked.
You were all so equally outstanding and I will be back to the Pia Bella and I recommend it absolutely to anyone wishing to visit Kyrenia.
