Annexe? Or cell block?

We booked this holiday via Thomas Cook on line as a 3* holiday. We arrived to find ouselves located into the annexe... officially 2* plus....These buildings resemble cell blocks and are poor in appearance and design. There is no air conditioning in the rooms which, as we experienced an apparently unseasonal heat wave, made sleeping near on impossible. We were told that we could hire a fan from reception.... why are they not in the rooms already? That said, the room was clean and the food was good. The staff were friendly and the local beer/spirits were fine. The evening "entertainment"-two middle aged men singing cover versions of Kenny Rogers and other middle of the road "classics" left a lot to be desired. Tucepi itself is ok..... a few too many pizza shops but a nice place for a stroll. We went on several organised excursions including Mostar(very good) and Dubrovnik(wonderful). We would certainly return to Croatia, but not to this part of the country as we've seen what we wanted to see, and certainly not to this hotel.

Lovely hotel shame about the noise

The hotel was fine. It was clean, the staff were lovely and the food was good. Mealtimes were not a problem to us. We were on all inclusive but did not take advantage of the lunches because we had to escape the dreadful eurovision type music that semed to go on all day between the announcements in four languages calling people to take part in the organised games etc by the pool. As far as I could see, they did not have many takers but the noise carried on. I asked if it could be turned down and I think it was to some extent (5 till 5.30 it went into mega disco mode, you couldnt get away from it even in the room with the windows shut) If you wanted to lay by the pool or in the grounds and read, it was very difficult unless you were deaf. Luckily there was a long beach and promenade which you could escape to. The situation on the waterfront was good and the views were wonderful. We were only there three days and it was enough. I couldn't have taken any more of that racket.

A mixed bag of experiences

Hotel Neptun was mainly populated by Northern Europeans and Croats, with very little English to be heard. There were lots of organised activities, cheesy music and tannoy announcements (in Croat) which gave the feeling of a rather surreal holiday camp, with everybody on best behaviour. The resort is very attractive and the hotel was kept clean and tidy but was old fashioned. We booked last minute and regretted taking full board, although the standard of the food was fine, the restrictive and rigid meal times (7 - 9 for breakfast, 12 - 2 for lunch, 7 - 9 for dinner) were a disappointment. There were dozens of other places to eat within walking distance. The beaches were very busy (it was August) but the sea was amazingly clear and inviting. I'd definitely go to Croatia again and Tucepi was pretty, but would advise a different hotel unless you are going to take full advantage of the sports facilities and don't mind the rigid mealtimes.

Top location & Holiday

This is the first time I have actually left a review for a holiday/hotel, and I am writing this now because I feel this hotel deserves a better shout than some previous reviews have given it. We went all-inclusive via Thomas Cook in mid Sept and had the best holiday yet (and we have been to the likes of Sardinia and Italy), this was due to the combination of beautiful scenery, it's friendly people, hotel staff /food. First impressions were not true of the overall picture of the hotel. Thomas Cook holidaymakers are made aware of the fact that their rooms will be in the (lesser quality accommodation) of the annex. It has to be said we were very fortunate to obtain a hotel room on the second from top floor. The room was clean, shower fantastic, and overall perfectly adequate. Hotel staff regularly cleaning rooms and changing sheets etc. All meals were buffet style, and from getting up at breakfast to going to bed at night, there is hardly a ''food free'' moment. Food and drink was pretty well in constant supply. The food at main meal times were of very good standard, with the choice admirable. Local drinks were free, if you were not happy with the lager of multiple choice of spirits/soft drinks, you could always buy something different from the foyer bar. But I really could not see why anyone should really need to. Reception staff we found to be very helpful, multi lingual and a joy. They made us feel so welcome. Tucepi is a great little place, you get there by walking along the lovely promenade, a very casual 20 minutes under the trees. I agree with another reviewer, in that the best beach is turn right at the rear gates, 5 minute walk to a quite beach with clear sea water and shingle beach (it's worth purchasing rubber plimsolls for your holiday duration). Quick word for ''Terry'', the rep, efficient, reliable and truthful. He was very patient with some very impatient holidaymakers. Sometimes you have to evaluate a holiday in the 'value for money' category, and any shortfalls the hotel may have had, are far outweighed by the positives. I believe sometimes some people seem to expect so much, and are too fussy. Maybe my wife and I are too easy, but I don't think so. We went on this holiday with a couple we met on a holiday in Sardinia last year, and their opinions match ours. Plenty of sites and locations, to visit. we hired a car for a couple of days which gave us more time in Dubrovnik one day, at a cheaper price, and to bay hop up and down the coast near Tucepi. Spectacular scenery, and if you did want to eat out at all, very cheap (huge pizza with all the trimmings for approx £3.50 in Omis!). Organised trip to Mostar was very tiring, but educational. We loved this holiday and will definitely return another day.

Came into Dubrovnik at 11pm and checked into the Hotel Neptune at 11:45pm with wife. We booked online and were checked into the hotel fine. At Midnight and again at close to 1AM the front desk called us to tell us we had to pay 50 Euros more for the room. It was totally ridiculous especially since we already checked in and were in bed. I complained about this in the morning and they didn't really care. While the rooms are okay the hotel is VERY FAR FROM the OLD TOWN, and if you are going to splurge the much much better option is the Dubrovnik Palace which has the beutiful Sunset Lounge. I REPEAT DO NOT STAY HERE ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!!

Ttay in the main hotel not annexe

Arrived at Hotel Neptun to find tour operator had not given correct information to us in relation to our expected accommodation. We found ourselves in the hotel annexe- a cramped dark room over looking the car park which was shabby and well worn to say the least and no air con! After paying for an upgrade we were situated in the main part of the hotel - a definite improvement - well worth paying the exra. Food ok. Totally agree with Tony's comments regarding restaurant, pool area and entertainment. Resort nice but extremely busy at the weekends with local people visiting. Turn right out of hotel and walk 5 mins along coast path to find a lovely quieter beach. Croatia in general is beautiful and good value for money.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Neptune. This was my first time I had ever travelled to Croatia and what a pleasant introduction. The room was cleaned daily by very hard working cleaning staff. The food was superb and had a good choice for every one, and varied daily. If you couldnt find something you liked there was something wrong with you. The staff throughout the hotel what ever job they had were pleasant and helpful day or night. The Thomas Cook rep"Terry" was marvelous, he was there at all the appointed times, always cheerful and nothing was too much trouble for him what ever the problem was.I certainly will visit this hotel again. It puts many other hotels to shame.

OK but not AOK

The Hotel Neptun is technically 3* but there are a few shortcomings that need addressing for it to truly merit its 3* rating. 1. The TV in the twin/double bedrooms in the hotel itself are dangerously mounted at head height right where one needs to walk so accidents are inevitable; we insisted that the TV and its wall-mount be removed altogether after I almost knocked myself out and broke my glasses. 2.There is a dire shortage of sun umbrellas and barely enough sun beds to go round - when we went (last two weeks of July) the guests were 95% German who started "reserving" their umbrellas and beds from about 4am onwards so that there was nothing left for those British families who only wandered down to the pool at 8am or later. 3.More people eat in the buffet restaurant than there are seats. Tables are pre-laid for the first to eat but although the staff promptly clear the tables once they have been vacated, they do not relay them. Irritatingly, this is left for the second sitters to do themselves. 4.The (original 40 year old?) plumbing is rather noisy so toilet flushing in the middle of the night wakes all the light sleepers in the vicinity. 5.The beds are wood framed and creak horribly (although they are comfortable enough). 6.The hotel has double sheets but no double blankets. 7.The two 4-person Otis lifts are too small for the demand on them and long waits were not unusual at times of peak demand. 8.Night time "entertainment" usually left a lot to be desired, but a stroll along the bustling Promenade was always an alternative (which we opted for most nights!). Good points about the hotel included: 1.Excellent newly refurbished ensuites with everything working well. 2.Admirably wide selection and seemingly unlimited quanties of very tasty food aimed at pleasing small children as well as adult palates. 3.Huge fresh-water pool (most Croatian pools are salt water). 4.Super position on the beach front. 5.Very clean and tidy throughout. 6.Very friendly and efficient staff especially if (unlike the Germans) one thanked them, for which them were most grateful!
