Top Local Tips for Split

Arrive by ferry If travelling to Split from Italy think about taking an overnight ferry from Ancona. In 2007 as well as in 2005 we took the train from Rome to Ancona. It's a 5 minute taxi ride from the train station to the maritime station. We boarded a Jadrolinija ferry at 7pm for dinner in the restaurant and a 2 berth cabin. The ferry leaves Ancona at 9pm and docks in Split at 7am right at the waterfront where all the action is. Split is a lovely sight early in the morning.

Ferries During peak times the ferries to the Islands (eg Hvar) can book up, so make sure you have booked your ticket if you can't afford to wait a few hours for the next one (or the next day depending on how late in the day it is). Also make sure you have not got too much luggage as you generally have to get yourself and your belongings on and off reasonably quickly.
