excellent hotel

We had a marvellous holiday at the Mediteran in Porec - nothing was too much trouble for the staff - the reception people were very friendly as were the dining room staff. The rooms were spotless and large with excellent views with free air conditioning and fans. The food was varied and plentiful with free drinks at the evening meal. We had cause to mention that some of the lamps were broken on the walk back from the centre making the path a little dark, although we felt pretty safe, and by 9.00 am there was a man repairing ones near the hotel and at night every one along the path was working - would that have happened in England!! There is plenty of room round the pool and a fair number of sunbeds and umbrellas, all free. Porec town is very nice with lots of bars and shops and an interesting harbour to watch - it is about a 20 minute walk from the hotel, but we like to walk our evening meal off. There is also a nice walk the opposite way round the coast path. Be warned though Croatia is quite green, that's because it does rain more often than, say, Spain or Italy. We are going again this summer and believe me, we won't put up with anything unsuitable and have been to many resorts in many countries - this is one of the cheapest and best value we have found for some time.
Terrible Staff

Where do I begin...
I´ll start with the positive.. the resort itself looks beautiful.. it´s backing on the sea and has a beautiful landscape, but it was all overshadowed by the service we experienced.. My family is European but we live in North America now and all the staff had something to say about our American accents.. Not only were they all snarky, but I had the advantage of understanding Croatian and hearing things from staff that I wish I couldn´t because it was so uncalled for. The receptionists were of no help and the beauty center staff double booked myself, kicking me out when she had a more expensive client.
A relative asked a waitress where the coffee stand was in the restaurant area, to what she replied, OPEN YOUR EYES! .. completely uncalled for...
As well, they offer a choo-choo train to downtown Poreè and we had been waiting for it for over an hour - once it had arrived it was full and I politely asked the train staff member what he can do to help us get downtown... I said that we had been waiting for one hour , to what he replied, So What?
All in all it was a great trip, but more of a self-service type of thing because the staff were of no help and management should seriously train their staff better.
