More Zupa than We Expected

We were full of trepidation firstly because the reviews of the Hotel Zupa were not very good and also we had never been to Croatia. We should not have worried. The outside of the Hotel did not do justice to the inside, which was clean and airy. Our room had free air-conditioning which was a plus and was more than spacious for us -clean towels provided daily and our bed changed 3 times in two weeks - more than we do at home! Breakfast was buffet style but we always had plenty of choice. We tried dinner a couple of times and this also buffet style was very good value for our money. The staff I would give 11 out of 10 - they were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The only reason we would not give the Hotel 10 out of 10 is because of the view from our balcony - we definitely did not have a sea view!! However, we went on holiday to explore Croatia not to sit on the balcony. We would definitely return to Croatia and the Zupa Hotel.

We have just come back from our first visit to Croatia and were very pleased with this hotel. It was a good basic hotel. The staff were excellant and made us so welcome and nothing was to much trouble. The rooms were cleaned every day ,the air conditioning was very good and very much needed as it was very hot all during our stay!!!! We were aware before we went that that there wasnt a pool etc so that wasnt dissapointing and as our rep said, why have a pool when the sea it so near and so lovely. The only reason why we havent given it full marks is that, maybe only for our tastes, the breakfast was a bit lacking in anything only the basic continental fare.

We went in Aug 2005 and the Hotel Zupa was nice. Our room was clean with a fridge and minibar. It was cleaned daily and the bar stocked up. A bottle of beer from minibar was 2pound fifty. The food was ok, but not great. There is a bombed out hotel nearby, but for me that was part of Croatian history.Hotel is 5 min from great beaches and easy acces to Dubrovnik by bus or boat.
The bus stop is literally across the stret fromthe hotel.Staff were friendly and helpful but they expect (rightly) to be treated with respect. I witnessed that rude guests were treated with indifference and didn't get a good service. I would go back again.

Definitely not 3 star. Surrounding area literal bomb site. Basic accommodation with students very noisy. Basic B&B. No sea view as described. Not cleaned regularly. Double bed but two single bed sheets & blankets used! No facilities. Very disappointing!

Not A 3 Star Hotel

This is definitely not a 3 Star hotel. Room was dirty (we asked to be moved from the one we were first offered - to be moved to another room of exactly the same standard); towels were unchanged; food was basic and only just palatable; dust was lying thick on top of the tv squashed onto the small table (not touched) whilst we were there); mirror must have been wiped with wet cloth at some point and retained these marks after 2 days (again, obviously untouched); no air conitioning; no 'sea view' as was overgrown with trees. We moved out after 2 days to a 3 Star hotel in Cavtat , which was 3 Star as we understand it to be and was beautiful. The difference in standards was amazing. We were told that up to a year ago the Zupa had been a motel. We were not the only people there who were unhappy at the conditions they found - but not everyone will choose to complain.

No luxury, simple accomodation and simple menus. Great for students/low budget or just value conscious.
