Rooms small but very clean.Balcony small and you have no privacy. Restaurant excellent and lots of different food. Under the hotel you can walk all along the sea.

Vespera has a few flaws, but nothing major enough to ruin your holiday

I just got back from a 7 day holiday which me and my partner spent in Hotel Vespera, Mali Losinj. I do have a few complaints (don't we always), but I am overall quite satisfied.

There are three things I liked best about our accomodation: 1) absolutely fantastic view of the sea 2) a huge fan on the ceeling 3) fridge in room. Now, fridge is not something that is included in every room and you have to specially request it. I would definitely suggest any Vespera visitor to ring the hotel one or two days prior to their arrival, and request to have it put in their room. It costs 3 EUR a day, and is really worth it when it's +35C outside. There is nothing nicer than coming back to your room at the end of a hot day, and sprawling on your bed under a big fan, with a cool drink in your hand. If you ring the hotel in advance, you can also choose whether you want a room on a higher floor or a lower floor (which you might not be able to do at the arrival, at peak season). If you like a nice view, I definitely recommend a 4th floor room. We feared we might be too hot there because it's right under the roof, but the huge fan on the ceeling was a pleasant surprise and it solved that problem for us. The only complaint I have regarding the room is the fact that the balconies are not devided by anything. There is no wall between you and your nextdoor neighbour, so your privacy may feel a ltitle invaded there. Rooms have good thick curtains to protect you from the neighbours' views though.

The bathroom has a bathtub with a shower (which uses a shower curtain instead of a door sadly). Tapwater is also amazingly clear and drinkable; from my experience, water in island hotels in Croatia tends to be full of chemicals, but not here.

All rooms have satelite TV, which will probably be most suitable for German tourists, since most channels are German satelite channels. There are a few Itallian ones, and a few Croatian ones, and only CNN is in English.

As for the hotel cuisine, the food was okay. Nothing too spectacular, rather ordinary food. The menu was always quite wide, so we found something nice to eat each day. Both breakfast and dinner are served buffet style, which is pretty handy. All drinks are also free of charge. Ultimately, if you don't like hotel cuisine, there are several restaurants within walking distance which serve fantastic local seafood specialties and grilled dishes, at rather average prices.

Regarding staff: the reception staff speak many different languages and are always very kind and helpful. The bar staff seemed to have an odd tendency to serve drinks with a hateful look on their face and whisper swearings into their chin when you turn around. Another annoyance was with the cleaners. They do not respect the "do not disturb" sign at all, and they don't just vacuum-clean and empty the rubbish bins - they also fold all your clothes and rearrange any untidy items you left lying around, which I personally find a little rude. I do have a tip though: instead of bothering with the "do not disturb" sign, just leave your key inside the lock, that'll keep them out while you're in.

The beaches around the hotel are mostly rocky and the sea is usually wavy. I would definitely recommend planing to bring shoes or sandals which you can wear in water, since the rocks can be both pointy and slippery. There is one small sand/gravel beach, however it's always incredibly packed, since it's the only place which is really suitable for children. The good thing about the rest of the (rocky) beaches though is that there is really enough space for everyone, so you can find secluded spots behind big rocks not too far from the hotel. You can also rent parasols and deck chairs and sit right by the sea, or you can sit higher up under the pine trees, if you prefer dense shade.

And before I finish, I have one note about public transport - when we first arrived to Mali Losinj, we arrived by coach from Zagreb. I must say I was absolutely shocked when I had to pay 85 kunas (12 EUR!!) for less than a 5 minute drive from the centre of Mali Losinj to our hotel. It's nearly twice what I'd pay for taxi in Zagreb. Later on we learned that there is a hotel bus which goes into town every half an hour, and costs only 7 kunas one way. So if you're arriving to Mali Losinj by coach, you may want to ring the hotel about the local bus time table, and save some money. The bus leaves from the same spot where a coach would drop you off in town centre, and it stops in front of hotel Aurora (which is right next to Vespera), hotel Bellvue, and Punta (in Veli Losinj). I wish I'd know that when I first arrived.

Anyway, to recap, I was happy with my holiday, I enjoyed our room and I enjoyed the location, which is truly beautiful. The hotel may have a couple of small setbacks, but really nothing major enough to ruin your holiday.
