The hotel food is self service and is a 'must' for the 'protein addict', but plenty of alternatives for 'Lowery' people.
Do try the Pear liquor!!
For overall tan, try the naturalist beach by the lighthouse.
'After Dark' nightclub in basement, but not obtrusive in hotel.
Against: For northern climate people, the air-con is turned off the last week in October and the duvets are rather heavy, but great for 'thin bloods'.
Overall: My second stay and hopefully not my last. Highly recommended.

Top Local Tips for Makarska
Stari Mlin Restaurant I've already mentioned this restaurant in my review but please try it at least once it's a lovely experience. It's not the cheapest restaurant but the whole atmosphere really takes you back in time. The seafood is excellent and they have steaks on the menue all cooked on an open griddle. Also try the local wines too - but not necessarily the table wine that can be a bit hit and miss - we had an excellent bottle (or two) of white wine. Zlatna - Vrbniska Zlahtina - try writing that down after a few glasses! The restuarant is hidden awy in the Old Town, walk along the main promenade and just next to the Riva Restaurant there is a side street you will see a sing for the restaurant there. Well worth a visit.
Best Bars Those seeking nightlife will find most of the best bars huddled together towards the East end of the Harbour. In addition there is a great bar (Grotta) clinging to the edge of the rocks on the Sv Petar Peninsula, and several beach bars along the Riva, west of Sv Petar.
Bus Station There is a bus station in Makarska quite near the hotel, and you can go to Split for the day for £3.50 each way. The buses are air-conditioned coaches and run quite frequently. You can buy a ticket at the bus station, or pay on the bus. There are also white mini buses which run from the harbour in Makarska. The drivers wait until they have 6-8 passengers, and then go to all the other resorts nearby e.g. Tucepi, Baska Voda, and it only costs £2.00 per person. They run about every 20 minutes or so, and you can flag them down to come back (they tell you where to wait for the return journey, which is usually across from where they dropped you off)

Air conditioning was poor - was it just a fan unit or did it really cool the air?
Lifts are old and slow - seem always to come in twos.
Breakfast is adequate - good selection but basically the same each day - no method to layout, so a lot of walking counter to counter.
Evening meals - interesting....generally something to our liking, but not that hot and again, a lot of walking to get what you want.
Dining room recently redecorated and now bright and airy - new lift from foyer to dining room...foyer still a bit dated however.
Night time entertainment - bit like early Butlins (so I am told) - but you can take it or leave it.
Curious why a family Hotel has a "Strip Club" in the basement - but it seems not to cause a problem !
All in all - a great location and we will certainly stay there again
