A lovely setting on a peaceful, beautiful island. The staff were very friendly and helpful excellent service- hotel beautifully furnished - food excellent - highly recommended. My sister and I found the room very comfortable, clean sheets twice a week and very peaceful. The weather was fantastic all week and we visited Mljet - Saplanara island with lunch at restaurant Stermasi included - brilliant! Highly recommended. We hope to return there next year. We also fed alot of poor stray cats - they need all the help they can get. Please remember them on your visit.

We stayed in the main hotel with a delightful room. Unlike an earlier reviewer, we found it refreshingly quiet once the shutters and windows were closed and the air-con put on its lowest fan setting. Once opened up, the noises off were very low key, primarily because there are no cars on the island - just golf buggies, some old engined carts and, we did see a couple of scooters. It's a lovely place to walk and swim and do as little as you wish. Excellent food both in the hotel and elsewhere. Although not cheap (22% VAT doesn't help!) the hotel is worth every penny. Our only complaint was that the available facilities were not well publicesed in the rooms or elsewhere. Not that it mattered, but it was day 3 before we discovered the pool! The local ferries are excellent and Dubrovnik easily reachable for a good visit.

Relaxing

We had a wonderful week here with our children aged 8 and 10 years. The only qualm being that it is not easy to self cater (we didn't get a hamper by the way.....maybe things have changed since 2005!). This should not put you off going, however, but there are a few pointers we would have found helpful: the kitchen is ingenious, but very basic and limited equipment eg we had to ask at the hotel for a tin opener (they were happy to oblige). So, pack one, gen up on "one pot" meals and ensure that you get the chance to visit the supermarket on the mainland as the tiny but very friendly shop was just open 4 to 8pm (though this varies I understand) and supplies were limited. Bread seemed in very short supply. But I am really not complaining as we had some good meals out! In all other respects, we had a great time. There were other families at the apartments and the pool was clean and had fantastic views. We did the fort walk in sandals. Maybe this was ill advised, but we made it!! The beach on the other side of the Island is amazing and wonderful for children as the water is so shallow. The beach restaurant is excellent, too, with a very friendly (again!) owner. We took the early morning ferry to Dubrovnik, thus avoiding the heat and the crowds at the old city and were back on our lovely island by 3pm! So do go, it is one of the best hols we have had (helped I think by above average temps and blue skies all week)and like the other reviewer, a week was not long enough for me.

Very, very noisy

We stayed for 3 nights in a very small sea-view room in the main hotel (there are apartments at the back). This was probably the noisiest hotel room we have ever had. Adjacent to the hotel is the Church with bells which ring twice i.e. double the hour throughout day and night. This combined with the noise from loading and unloading in the harbour which is directly in front of the hotel starting at 6am did not help us get much rest. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is totally devoid of any ambience and meal delivery takes forever. Still Lopud is a delightful island and well worth a visit.

Lopudski Dvori Apartments

Myself and my friend booked into these apartments, which lie behind the Villa Vilina Hotel, looking for a relaxing break. Having had a stressful journey (being as close to missing our flight without actually doing so as is humanly possible) we found ourselves winding down immediately we got on the boat to Lopud. We were even lucky enough to have been welcomed by a pod of dolphin! On arriving at Lopud the lovely owners of the Villa Vilina whisked our luggage from the harbor up the steps to the hotel. We couldn't have been happier with our accommodation. Stunning views, a quiet pool (shared with about 6 or so other rooms), private terrace, pristine apartment (modern but yet with character), remote controlled air con (capable of making you feel right at home!!! i.e. Baltic!), TV (not that we turned it on!), lovely little kitchen housed inside a cupboard, not to mention a hamper full of goodies (read wine and biscuits!), fresh bread and fruit and a fridge stocked with the essentials. You will love this place with a passion, as long as you want relaxation (no jumping night life on this island, although plenty of little bars and restaurants), and there is plenty to do if you can drag yourself off the beach (this island has 2 sandy beaches, a rarity for Croatia)! Dubrovnik is a short boat ride away and will easily fill a couple of days if you let it! Mljet is a longer trip and you can only go there on Saturdays from the Island. I would advise you to go if the weather is good, it is a stunning place, but if you can stay the night there, if you return the same day you don't get time to do it justice and risk spending most of your time in the main harbor, scared of missing the only ferry back (however I think you can get a ferry from Dubrovnik most days). On the Island itself there are some lovely walks, and the climb up to the fort (about and hour) is a must for the panoramic views (NB wear good shoes/trainers; leave in the morning or take lots of time, and bring water, it is hot!; look out for snakes, we saw a couple, but they just seemed to want to get out of the way). We also fitted in a trip to Montenegro which was gorgeous! We just wish we had more than a week! Highly recommended!!!
