Top Local Tips for Hvar

Ferry trip from Split We took our hire car over to Hvar via the early morning ferry from Split. It was chaotic at Split ferry terminal and the boat was pretty full. The journey is just under 2 hours and was fine. If you are going over on foot be aware that the local bus into Hvar Town from the ferry port was packed and in hot weather I can imagine it would be an unpleasant journey as the road into Hvar is quite windy.We left the island via the shorter ferry crossing at the southern end of the island. It only takes 25 minutes and was much quieter and low key but do check the times of the crossings.

Ferries to Hvar Beware. We thought you could just hop on a ferry anytime any day from Dubrovnik to Hvar. You can't! Take note of the ferry timetables. We ended up having to get a bus up to Split and found there were more ferries there to Split (around 2-3 a day). There might be more in July/Aug, but its a good idea to check with the Ferry timetables. There is a website called Jadrolinja (or something like that!), which provides the timetables.
