Top Local Tips for Dubrovnik

Aggressive Restaurant Hosts In the old city, avoid speaking English within earshot of restaurant hosts who will waylay you and try to get your to eat at their restaurant. They can be very persistent and difficult to shake if you aren't interested. Once they hear you speak English they assume you have the money to spend to eat at their restaurant, and really do have a hard time taking "no" for an answer. For fun, my best friend approached a restaurant host and spoke Crotian (he is Bosnian, the language is the same) and the host nearly ignored him until I spoke up, in English, at which time he tripped over himself to get us to a table as soon as he could.

Dubrovnik's old town is breathtaking. Dubrovnik is really easy to get around. If there is a destination I would want to return to time and time again, it is Dubrovnik. Their bus system is brilliant - so easy to get to majior sight seeing places. The old town is immaculate. It is clean, pristine, full of history that I, as an Australian, find hard to comprehend. And the Adriatic sea is so so chrystal clear. If you can afford to go anywhere in Europe, make Dubrovnik one of your stops.
