Lovely Location
from A TripAdvisor MemberHotel Lapad was just average
from SharonBangorHotel Lapad was really nice and clean
from mobilaThe food in the hotel was lovely and the staff were really friendly and the rooms were really clean what more do you want..........!!!! It was really good for a three star hotel, the only thing I would say if your going for a mad week away it's probably not the place to stay it's mostly older people.
There was also a lovely pool nice and relaxed there. it's close to everything a lovely harbour at the front of the hotel. The only thing there wasn't really a beach near by I don't think anyway didn't look very much.........!!
Over all I thought Croatia was one of the best holidays I've been on and the hotel was just what we needed not luxury but nice..........!!!!!
Wonderful Hotel Lapad

from A TripAdvisor MemberFull marks!
from JennyEnglandThe staff were superb, always polite and more than helpful. Special praise to the lovely blonde lady domestic on the 5th floor. The dining room staff were attentive, efficient and caring. The food was more than adequate.
If you want a quiet location within walking distance of the old town, with bus service almost outside the door, the Lapad is the place. Excellent value and great service. It was far more than I expected.
I hope to return again and again.
Satisfied Customer
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe food as has been said elsewhere was nothing special, but we were always able to find something on the menu that was edible.
The staff were helpful and efficient if not overly friendly, this appeared to be the case everywhere in Dubrovnik, so perhaps we are just used to different type of service, to be honest I found this quite refreshing. It feels like going back 30 years in terms of the holiday experience.
One point to note was I left my camera bag in the airport on arrival with a video camera, and two digital camera's in it. The Holiday rep and the staff helped me contact the airport, and believe it or not retrieve the items. Certainly left me with a high opinion of the Croatian people.
If you go make sure you visit Lopud, we intend to go back to the island in the future, an island hopping trip is a must.
In summary we found the whole experience a restful couple of weeks, ideal for us, but I would be reticent to take active kids or teenagers, a bit too quiet for them.
Good quality, good value hotel, excellent location
from cawa81We were on half board at the hotel (mainly because it actually worked out cheaper) and to be honest the food in the evening wasn't good (although we only ate in one evening), but it was exactly what it described so we weren't hugely dissapointed. The breakfasts were generous and had a variety of choice so you could stock up for the morning.
To summarize I think the Hotel Lapad is in a fantastic location, very reasonably priced and very polite and friendly staff.
Average Hotel - Great place
from A TripAdvisor MemberBreakfast was plentiful and was mainly European in content, so if you are expecting a full British breakfast you will be disappointed. Dinner was nothing to write home about and was quite bland, however, Croatian food is pretty simple so attempting to keep a mulitcultural customer base content is probably a challenge.
We found the staff both helpful and friendly. What we did find unusual was that we were in the minority of tourists and the rest of Europe and places like Russia out numbered us considerably!
Tourism is the main industry in Croatia and every one involved in it seems to speak at least three languages. The bus service is extremely good and drops you off outside the hotel although there is a 5-6 minute walk to catch the bus.
From the front entrance area of the hotel you walk directly out onto a one way road which is along side the harbour front with nothing stopping you falling in the water. Great for us, but may be of concern if travelling with young children.
Dubrovnik as a place was superb and many of the restaurants served extremely good food. On our final night we ate in one of the most prestigious restaurants in Dubrovnik, had three courses, a bottle of wine and a couple of other drinks also. The service was great, the bill came to around £100 and we felt that we had had extremely good value for our hard earned cash.
Generally we found the cost of living to be pretty much on par with the UK.
The scenery is stunning, the sea waters very clear - we spent many hours watching fish and seeing if we could spot a new variety. We would recommend taking a day trip into Montenegro for some wonderful views along the way. If you do not like heights this trip will definitely take every one of your nerve, but we believe it will be worth it.
We had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
Good Basic Hotel in Lapad
from elsbellsTop Local Tips for Dubrovnik
Cilipi Folk Dancing / Kotor If you want to see the dancing don't go on a trip. It is only 15kn for a bus Cilipin from the Dubrovnik bus station at 10am and you can then walk back to Cavtat (about 4 miles) on a path - pick up a leaflet at the Cavtat tourist office a few days before. The dancing is only short and it cost 40 Kn to get in but the walk is very nice and it makes a goood day out. Also if you go to Montenegro take waterproofs as the rain can pour in Kotor!
Good and bad places in Lapad Turn right from the hotel and there's a nice pizza restraunt with a roof terrace about 100yds on the right. Avoid the restraunt Orsan (about 300yds to the left of the Hotel) - locals place and very unfriendly. Go left from the Hotel, take the first left (about 100 yds) continue up the hill, across the square and you get to the Lapad pedestrian promenade - lots of good places. At the bottom of the promenade, turn right and follow the coast path for a bout 1/2 mile to one of the nicest little restaurants we have visited.
Secret Bars Look out for the 2 hidden bars outside of the city walls.

The staff were very friendly and helpful (bus tickets sold at front desk) the pool and pool area were cleaned regularly and well maintained. The pool bar wasn't cheap, but wasn't too expensive either - they only take Kuna by the way. The breakfast had enormous choice, I was a little tired of it byt the end of the week as i wouldnt be one for cheese and salami for breakfast. But they had cereal and toast and eggs of all kinds so it would be hard to eat nothing. Wasnt too impressed with the lunch menu, ate there one day and it was nice. Dinner is a choice of a la carte menu or buffet. We had the buffet one evening and its was really nice, loads of choice and all you can eat for about 20e/140kuna.
I believe the hotel was done up recently which may explain the previous reviews i read not being fantastic, but I would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere nice, clean, friendly and only 5mins walk to bus into old town and bus stops outside hotel on the way back. Has my thumbs up.
