Nice Hotel

We booked the Hotel Lapad as it looked like a nice 3 star hotel, within our budget, we had a choice of many through Croatia tours. I looked online at some reviews before we left and they all advised it was cheap and cheerful but nothing amazing so I wasn't expecting the Hilton. When we arrived it was midnight and the hotel had provided us with a cold buffet, expecting we would be hungry after travelling which was nice! The room was lovely, 2 single beds pushed together instead of a double, but not the end of the world. The shower was amazing, the beds comfortable and clean, the air conditioning fantastic. Light controls for all lights in the room and bathroom on the wall and beside each bed so we didnt even have to get up to turn them on or off. We had a little table and chairs outside on our own mini-terrace which was nice.
The staff were very friendly and helpful (bus tickets sold at front desk) the pool and pool area were cleaned regularly and well maintained. The pool bar wasn't cheap, but wasn't too expensive either - they only take Kuna by the way. The breakfast had enormous choice, I was a little tired of it byt the end of the week as i wouldnt be one for cheese and salami for breakfast. But they had cereal and toast and eggs of all kinds so it would be hard to eat nothing. Wasnt too impressed with the lunch menu, ate there one day and it was nice. Dinner is a choice of a la carte menu or buffet. We had the buffet one evening and its was really nice, loads of choice and all you can eat for about 20e/140kuna.
I believe the hotel was done up recently which may explain the previous reviews i read not being fantastic, but I would recommend it to anyone looking for somewhere nice, clean, friendly and only 5mins walk to bus into old town and bus stops outside hotel on the way back. Has my thumbs up.
The Best Service and lovely staff

We have just returned from a weeks holiday at Hotel Lapad, I cannot praise the Staff enough, we had a room with a balcony overlooking the Harbour which was perfect! My friend and I agreed that it was a holiday to remember, thankyou to all the staff at Hotel Lapad for making it so.

Also Dubrovnik is a beautiful place I can't wait to return!

Lovely Location

from A TripAdvisor Member
The location and views from the hotel are fantastic. Just a quick bus ride or 40 minute walk into the Old Town or a five minute stroll to Lapad we were spoilt for choice for restaurants, coastal walks and scenery. The hotel itself was great. The maids left the room sparkling and even cleared the room if you were in it until the afternoon. Fantastic variety both British and Croatian for breakfast-although only stayed B+B so cannot comment on lunch and tea. The pool is clean, there are plenty of sun loungers and the bar staff are friendly and helpful. Would 100% recommend for anyone visting Dubrovnik.

Hotel Lapad was just average

from SharonBangor
Just returned from staying at the Hotel Lapad, Dubrovnik for a week. Hotel was clean and staff were quite friendly. The room we had was spacious and had air conditioning but the balcony was a bit small and there was no view really from the side sea view balcony we had. Hotel was not in an excellent position as it was a 45 minute walk from the hotel to the old town of Dubrovnik. It was lucky there was a bus stop outside the hotel that goes to the old town (bus no 6). There was nowhere to go in the evening for a stroll after dinner. The food was very basic, it was either meat and chips or meat and potates every evening. The breakfast wasn't all that good either. I don't think I will be coming back to stay to this hotel again. I woiuld prefer a hotel nearer to the old town.

Hotel Lapad was really nice and clean

My boyfriend and I went there this year on the 11th June 2006 for one week. We live in Ireland and we flew from Dublin, I'm 24 and he's 31.
The food in the hotel was lovely and the staff were really friendly and the rooms were really clean what more do you want..........!!!! It was really good for a three star hotel, the only thing I would say if your going for a mad week away it's probably not the place to stay it's mostly older people.
There was also a lovely pool nice and relaxed there. it's close to everything a lovely harbour at the front of the hotel. The only thing there wasn't really a beach near by I don't think anyway didn't look very much.........!!
Over all I thought Croatia was one of the best holidays I've been on and the hotel was just what we needed not luxury but nice..........!!!!!

Wonderful Hotel Lapad

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Hotel Lapad from 04/06/2006 to 18/06/2006 & found it to be one of the nicest Hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff (especially in the restuarant) are marvellous all of them being multi lingual & extremely helpful. The food was great especially when you consider that this is a three star hotel & they are catering for a wide range of nationalities. The dinner menu has at least four main course & desert options so it would be very difficult not be able to find something you liked. The place is extremely clean with basic but very comfortable rooms & a better than average hotel bar. Try to get a room with a balcony overlooking the harbour its a great view. The location is great & probably the best you will get in Dubrovnik without paying serious money, its a pleasant twenty five minute walk or a ten minute bus journey to the old town. If you use the bus buy the tickets from the hotel shop (they're cheaper) & catch the bus (No 6 or 9) from the stop around the corner in front of the shoe shop/TV shop not the one outside the hotel unless you want a longer journey around Babin Kuk. The old town is fantastic & more than lives up to its reputation but if you want a change there are bars/cafes/restuarants all within walking distance of the Lapad. To sum up, a great little hotel in a fantastic city at a near bargain price and a hotel that I will definately be staying in again.

loved hotel lapad

Stayed at the Laped 16 to 23 may, what a great little hotel.had a room on second floor of old part so had great views over the harbour in front of hotel.Cannot fault the place! we,d read the food was bland, not in our opinion we enjoyed every meal.Soup and salad and choice of 4 meals each evening. The staff are very efficiant and friendley, everywhere clean and well kept.No entertainment on till june, but we got the no. 6 bus across road from hotel into Dubrovnik 3 evenings ,what a beautiful place that is! not so busy at night, in the day you get alot of tourists off the cruise ships but still a lovely place to see, a gem! If you turn left out of hotel walk along a few yards, keep on left ,up hill cross main road,go right then left ,you will find bars and cafes,at bottom is a nice bay.Hotel komposs there do great pizza,s! try and learn a few Croation words! Drinks about the same price as england ask for "domestic" its local drinks, much cheaper! We hope to holiday there again next year!

Full marks!

Having just returned today from the Lapad, the only fault I could find with the hotel was that I'd have liked a bigger balcony.

The staff were superb, always polite and more than helpful. Special praise to the lovely blonde lady domestic on the 5th floor. The dining room staff were attentive, efficient and caring. The food was more than adequate.

If you want a quiet location within walking distance of the old town, with bus service almost outside the door, the Lapad is the place. Excellent value and great service. It was far more than I expected.

I hope to return again and again.

Stayed here for a fortnight in July 2005, and have been meaning to review ever since. Found the Hotel to be clean and the rooms were spacious enough for couples. The view over the harbor was excellent, not very much sun where we were though, so we did not sit out much. I thought the pool was pretty good, large enough for a decent swim and never too busy.

The food as has been said elsewhere was nothing special, but we were always able to find something on the menu that was edible.

The staff were helpful and efficient if not overly friendly, this appeared to be the case everywhere in Dubrovnik, so perhaps we are just used to different type of service, to be honest I found this quite refreshing. It feels like going back 30 years in terms of the holiday experience.

One point to note was I left my camera bag in the airport on arrival with a video camera, and two digital camera's in it. The Holiday rep and the staff helped me contact the airport, and believe it or not retrieve the items. Certainly left me with a high opinion of the Croatian people.

If you go make sure you visit Lopud, we intend to go back to the island in the future, an island hopping trip is a must.

In summary we found the whole experience a restful couple of weeks, ideal for us, but I would be reticent to take active kids or teenagers, a bit too quiet for them.

Good quality, good value hotel, excellent location

from cawa81
We stayed in Hotel Lapad for a week in July 2005 and were very satisfied with the stay. The price was very reasonable and the rooms were clean and spacious, what more can you ask for? We had a stunning view from the balcony over the harbour. We mainly used the hotel as a base and didn't spend any time at the pool (which looked quite small but never too busy). The hotel offered a water taxi to the local beach daily which was handy although it was a lovely 15 minute walk anyway. The old town of Dubrovnik was only a 5min taxi/bus ride away and we thought that this made the location perfect.

We were on half board at the hotel (mainly because it actually worked out cheaper) and to be honest the food in the evening wasn't good (although we only ate in one evening), but it was exactly what it described so we weren't hugely dissapointed. The breakfasts were generous and had a variety of choice so you could stock up for the morning.

To summarize I think the Hotel Lapad is in a fantastic location, very reasonably priced and very polite and friendly staff.

Average Hotel - Great place

from A TripAdvisor Member
We went for a fortnight half board and the hotel although in some respects quite basic met our needs. We were in the new block at the back and had a balcony overlooking the harbour. The room was of a reasonable size and the shower was both spacious and powerful. The beds were very comfortable, the towels were changed daily and the room likewise cleaned.

Breakfast was plentiful and was mainly European in content, so if you are expecting a full British breakfast you will be disappointed. Dinner was nothing to write home about and was quite bland, however, Croatian food is pretty simple so attempting to keep a mulitcultural customer base content is probably a challenge.

We found the staff both helpful and friendly. What we did find unusual was that we were in the minority of tourists and the rest of Europe and places like Russia out numbered us considerably!

Tourism is the main industry in Croatia and every one involved in it seems to speak at least three languages. The bus service is extremely good and drops you off outside the hotel although there is a 5-6 minute walk to catch the bus.

From the front entrance area of the hotel you walk directly out onto a one way road which is along side the harbour front with nothing stopping you falling in the water. Great for us, but may be of concern if travelling with young children.

Dubrovnik as a place was superb and many of the restaurants served extremely good food. On our final night we ate in one of the most prestigious restaurants in Dubrovnik, had three courses, a bottle of wine and a couple of other drinks also. The service was great, the bill came to around £100 and we felt that we had had extremely good value for our hard earned cash.

Generally we found the cost of living to be pretty much on par with the UK.

The scenery is stunning, the sea waters very clear - we spent many hours watching fish and seeing if we could spot a new variety. We would recommend taking a day trip into Montenegro for some wonderful views along the way. If you do not like heights this trip will definitely take every one of your nerve, but we believe it will be worth it.

We had a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

Good Basic Hotel in Lapad

from elsbells
This is a good basic hotel in Lapad. Stayed here after reading the other reviews which were pretty spot on. Followed the advice to get a room in the new building - which was comfortable and clean. Breakfast was v good - simple food but lots of it (pastries, fruit, yoghurt, cereals, toast, hot food etc). Location is fine - area is nice and quiet and within easy reach of the main restaurant area on Lapad. Also about a 35min walk to the Old town of Dubrovnik.

Top Local Tips for Dubrovnik

Cilipi Folk Dancing / Kotor If you want to see the dancing don't go on a trip. It is only 15kn for a bus Cilipin from the Dubrovnik bus station at 10am and you can then walk back to Cavtat (about 4 miles) on a path - pick up a leaflet at the Cavtat tourist office a few days before. The dancing is only short and it cost 40 Kn to get in but the walk is very nice and it makes a goood day out. Also if you go to Montenegro take waterproofs as the rain can pour in Kotor!

Good and bad places in Lapad Turn right from the hotel and there's a nice pizza restraunt with a roof terrace about 100yds on the right. Avoid the restraunt Orsan (about 300yds to the left of the Hotel) - locals place and very unfriendly. Go left from the Hotel, take the first left (about 100 yds) continue up the hill, across the square and you get to the Lapad pedestrian promenade - lots of good places. At the bottom of the promenade, turn right and follow the coast path for a bout 1/2 mile to one of the nicest little restaurants we have visited.

Secret Bars Look out for the 2 hidden bars outside of the city walls.
