I totally agree with the review that normally don't give this type of praise to a "chain" hotel. This is by far and away a huge exception to that rule. No need for a car @ all as you can easily stroll to the Pile gate and "retreat" to the incredibly restored hotel with stunning views of the Old Town. I could just stay there adn read and enjoy the breezes of the Adriatic for years! The Staff were incredibly helpful (although again agree that they NEED a concierge) not to mention friendly and smiling. They should also have an attendant @ the health club for safety/security reasons alone. Highly recommend April/May as it is pretty much to yourself with the whole Old Town almost to yourself. The downside is many of the islands have limited facilities open until high season. Would easily stay here again and again and never tire of it's beauty.
A wonderful hotel

The problem with Hilton hotels is their quality varies so massively- some are wonderful, some are awful but most are the bare minimum you could expect from a 4-5 star. But I travel a lot with work and I can say the Hilton in Dubrovnik is probably the best I've visited.
Some other 5 star hotels in the city are within the walled city but the Hilton sits on the hillside just a few minutes stroll from the Pile Gate so don't let that put you off. In fact we wouldn't have swapped the view from our balcony for anything.
We booked an executive room- but when we arrived to find we were in a ground floor annexe we asked to be moved- and got a lovely large third floor room on the front overlooking the fort. Reception could not have been more helpful and our three night stay was effortless.
We didn't eat in the hotel but breakfast was good (make sure you try Lokanda Peskarija in the old harbour- great, cheap food and lots of it plus a beautiful view and good service).
Dubrovnik is a beautiful, friendly town and a superb choice for a long weekend break- don't look any further than this great hotel to make your weekend even better.

An Imperial Place to Stay

I generally avoid large hotels, and loathe the big chains, but in this case, must give the devil his due: the Imperial is a marvelous hotel, even if it is a Hilton. Whoever designed and re-decorated this property, resurrecting it from a mess of neglect and war, did a magnificent job. It is just beautiful, inside and out.
The pluses:
The decor, including the public areas and the bed-rooms, is outstanding. The bedrooms are beautiful, and silent. The indoor pool is one of the most beautiful I've ever seen - - a wonderful place to give children a brief respite from history, museums and monuments.
The location is the best in town, especially if you throw parking and general access into the mix. There are only a couple of hotels within the city walls, but getting to them, from wherever you park, would be a chore at best, a nightmare at worst. The Imperial is very easy to get to by car, and is just steps from the Pile Gate entrance to the old town.
The out-of-season rates were very reasonable.
Staff is very helpful and courteous throughout the property.
Minuses? During our stay, there really weren't any. However, I can easily imagine a few that might crop up during high season. The front desk is tiny, and desk staff man the phones and serve as de facto concierges simultaneously with their check-in and check-out duties. We had no problems - - the front desk help us with symphony tickets, a car rental for a day-trip to the Bay of Kotor, and dinner recommendations - - but our visit was in March, when we had the hotel pretty much to ourselves. A hotel of this quality really ought to have a full time concierge.

Christmas with Titan Hitours

We are a couple in our 70s and stayed five nights at the Hilton over Christmas 2005. We asked for a quiet room with a bath and had a very pleasant room at the back. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. The hotel was warm and very well lit, including the bedrooms. The only adverse comment is that the evening meal was at 7.30 (I would have liked a prompt start at 7pm) but, with the organising of drinks, the dinner didn't really get underway until 8.00 or 8.15. The Christmas day meals were painfully slow (for us), partly because many of us didn't want the first course of oysters and they insisted on making an alternative.
The town is so near that we were able to stroll down there after the evening meal - most of the buildings and the town walls were oulined in tiny white lights. There is a small church twenty yards up the hill opposite the hotel which had a lovely crib scene and a short wander past this you can reach St ?Johns tower which is a good viewpoint for photos. Continuing to the right, along the paths/streets, you reach a small park and can walk down to the water's edge.
Weatherwise, the first two days were sunny with temperatures of about 9'. On the the third day we walked around the walls in pouring rain in waterproof trousers and tops and on the last day the rain/showers were intermittent.
With Titan's excellent courier services, we were collected from home and driven back there without a hitch - definitely recommended.

Great Hotel, Fantastic Service

My husband and I stayed for three nights at the Hilton Imperial. It is in a fantastic location, steps away from the old city center, with unbeatable views of the Adriatic. While the check-in process was a little slow (the person in front of me asked a ton of questions of the desk attendant, so it was not their fault), they assigned us to a beautiful room with a balcony. Moreover, as a Diamond HHonors member, they had a welcome letter and a tray of snacks (small fruits and chocolates) waiting for me in the room. Each night we were there, they left for us a different snack tray. The executive lounge was also pleasant; it too has a balcony with the great views. Overall, the service was great.

Fabulous hotel

We stayed here for 3 nights from 3 October and have nothing but praise for the hotel and staff. The location was superb, the hotel was superb but unfortunately we did not have enough time to try the hotel restaurant. We could find nothing wrong and would certainly recommend.
Good not Great

My wife and I recently spent 5 nights at this hotel, in an "Executive Plus" room. When making the booking we asked for a sea view, which we technically had from our side window if we stood "tippy toe", but the room was located at the rear of the main hotel building. The views from our balcony of the houses at the back of the hotel with their laundry drying in the autumn sun was not exactly what we had in mind when we booked our accommodation. We asked to be relocated to another room, but this never happened. If having a sea view is important to you, I strongly suggest you ask for a room at the front of the main hotel building with views of the sea and old town. Be specific!
While this was typical of the generally poor levels of service at the hotel which some other reviewers have also noted, the room itself was very well appointed, the bathroom OK, and the buffet breakfast pretty ordinary. There is no concierge or newspaper service, and when checking-in I suggest you ask whether you are entitled to use the Executive Lounge on the fourth floor of the main hotel building - they will not tell you unless you ask!
On the upside, the hotel is conveniently located close to the Pile Gate to the old town and the pool and gym are of a high standard. Based on our experience, this hotel could easily have a 4 or 5 star rating if greater attention was paid to customer service.

Great for a romantic week

We stayed at the Hilton Dubrovnik for our 6 month anniversary. Dubrovnik's Old Town is fabulous, and we had a very relaxing week there and on the nearby island.
The Hilton is very good. Our room was in a separate block to the main hotel. It was very spacious, with a view of the Old Town (just). The servicing of the rooms was immaculate, the bathroom well appointed and the bed huge. The bar was rather expensive, and we didn't try the restaurant for dinner (although breakfast was good) - there were just too many places to try in the Old Town!
The only downside was that the room wasn't ready when we arrived, but I suspect that was due to our Tour Operator rather than the Hilton themselves.
Overall - excellent, and helped us have a wonderful break.

We are happy to have stayed at Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik. Every Staff was very helpful and friendly with a little bit "rookie" charm. When I needed, they had not only concert tickets, but also a cardboard box as if they stocked everything. On the reservation I have requested old town view. But other side was ready for us. With a glance of it, I asked to change rooms. A staff tried and arranged everything. There was a room within my supplementary budget on the executive floor, had a terrace with a view of old town and sea. I decided it immediately. This newly opend hotel has been built near the famous "Pile" gate. This is an advantage for a guest who wants to reach many touristic points. The entrance doesn't face old town directly. If the entrance ware facing "Pile", I think it makes this hotel more impressive. A gentle incline continues from the gate to the hotel. Walking is a good exercise after delicious dalmatian dinner, on your full stomach. You can find a cozy restaurant "Proto" in old town a little way off the main street "Stradun", was recommended by an attendant of our lovely executive lounge. We have enjoyed a dinner there, came back to our room and switched on a light. Birthday cake was on a wagon for my partner. I have talked with a receptionist in advance. But that had been just talked once simply and they didn't have mentioned any more. That was why we have expected nothing like this. We have nearly wept for joy and thanks. We will visit Dubrovnik again!

Do your homework on planning your trip Lots of day trips and all worthwhile including Medgujore, Mostar and Montenegro. There are 2 main tour groups in dubrovnik that run these excursions. Ask the hotel for a timetable of them. There is so much to see and do you will need to organise your time when visiting plus the added bonus of totally amazing scenery everywhere you go
Best by far Club Nautika for fabulous food in a glorious setting
Local Tourist board tips Go into the local tourist board office located on the main stip "Stradun" and ask about any current events or festivities taking place on the dates of your stay. This is an active little town and they can fill you in on these details when you are there.
