Get a sea view room in main building if possible, as you get a fantastic view of Lapad Bay.
Wot to do - relaxing in the sun, either by the pool, or on one of the shingle beaches within easy reach. Walking - lovely walk around Lapad peninsula, easy walk down to main port, and easy bus links to the "Old Town".
Best thing we did. From Dubrovnik, catch the local bus to Cavtat, cost £1.20. The journey is spectacular, back towards the airport along the coast, then drops down to Cavtat. You can also get to Cavtat by boat from the old town.
Other places to go - Ubiquitous "Three Island Trip" was a pleasant day out. You can also have trips to Korcula (do yourself on ferries from main port, 15 mins walk from hotel), Mostar was apparently a very interesting trip.
Evenings - not much happening. just going out for a quiet drink after dinner.
Hotel and resort perfect for a relaxing holiday.

Great Value Hotel
from davidandhannahThe food in the hotel is pretty good, with lots of choice.
We had a sea-view room in the main building which was comfortable, with fantastic views over Lapad Bay.
Sun loungers were plentiful around the pool. The outdoor pool is sea-water, and a little cold, not quite pasiing my big toe test, but fine once you are in.
Evevings are relaxing. Nothing going on in the hotel, so out for a stroll and a drink or coffee after dinner.
Hotel is well sitiuated, in easy reach of Old City, well served by local bus at less than £1, but also an easy walk to the main port of Gruz where all the cruise ships dock and the local ferries leave.
Ther are lovely walks along the coast.
We thought the holiday was great. We have seen lot of the world, and this part of the world is certainly of of the prettiest. Should you wish to get any more information on getting around, walks, beaches, feel free to conact me a dtatsky at tesco.net
Good Choice in Lapad
from AlanHIn all a fine base in the Lapad area of Dubrovnik, and one which offers its guests all they could need for a relaxing and enjoyable stay in wonderful Dubrovnik.
Nice hotel
from pcbdougPleasant and relaxing hotel
from WenDavWhile we were there the weather was terrible but we still managed to go some lovely walks along the coast and into Dubrovnik old town. This is quite a walk but enjoyable. Also the bus stop is really close to the hotel and very reliable and cheap. There is a supermarket very close to the hotel which was great.
The food was a average and variable, on the 1st night the buffet was a bit basic and not too appetising but it improved on the 2nd and 3rd nights - not sure why. We got a really good deal and so were not that concerned.
The only disappointment we had was that the indoor pool was freezing cold and a bit unbearable to swim in. Due to the weather we could not use the outdoor pool but I bet even that wasn't as cold!!
Huge disappointment!
from Zaubiet have worried!
from Brumus25We had half-board and enjoyed the food. It would be difficult not to find something to suit your taste. The restaurant staff we encountered were all very pleasant.
We found the hotel's position ideal. The buses were handy for Dubrovnik, but we also were able to walk there. We went to Cavtat by bus a couple of times-- the journey there was very picturesque, as was the destination. We also went on the three island picnic from the jetty at the bottom end of the hotel, a memorable day too.
Oh, and we went in the sea every day.
We would certainly go back to this area and to this hotel, including the annexe.
Give it a go
from Amethyst15However we we truly surprised.
Our room was lovely and big with a great bathroom. I believe the rooms in the main hotel had just been refurbished. We had a corner room high up which gave us views of the mountains and the sea.
However those people who stayed in the annex were not as impressed as they were small and out dated. It is definitly worth the extra to book a room in the main hotel.
Although the buffet was a little monotonous there was something for every one and being a picky eater I was pleased. The aperatif bar is a little small. The outside pool was lovely and we both booked a massage with a croatian lady.
While I was there I got a nasty insect bite. Don't let that put you off. Reception were brilliant. They phoned the hotel doctor who arrived in 25mins and gave me an injection. He was a lovely experienced GP who spoke fluent English. So rest assured if you have any problems medical help is very good...better than England.
This hotel was in a perfect location. Although we went in May we didn't get best use from the beach, but the weather was starting to warm up. Lots of costal walks and the sea water looked so clear. Yet jump on the number 4 bus at the back of the hotel it takes you right in to Durbovnik Old Town which is absolutely amazing.
You get the best of both worlds from this hotel. Suitable for everyone. I have just been to a Thompson 3 star in Spain and there was no comparison to this one. Although I have only ever been on two package holidays maybe my eyes are blinkered.
We travelled with Thompson, and experienced no problems or delays. Straight off the plan at Dubrovnik airport on to our coach.
Hope this helps, as I read some bad reviews about this hotel. I think the location out weigh any bad reviews.
Nice hotel in good location
from hufriThe hotel has a good sized outdoor pool with plenty of sun loungers in both sunny and shady spots. Even when there were a lot of people around the pool, the lack of children made it quiet and relaxing! There is a pool bar which serves a range of drinks and snacks.
The hotel gardens run down almost to the beach and the promanade area is very close by with a good selection of restaurants and bars to choose from.
The food in the hotel was nothing special but was adequate. Be warned though, if you are a vegetarian you will probably struggle! The evening meal is set out in a help yourself style. There were usually four or five main dishes to choose from and then vegetables and salad. There was not always a vegetarian option which left omelettes (if the filling happened to be veggie) or salad and cooked vegetables. It is fairly cheap to eat out which is what we did a couple of times.
The area of Lapad is fairly touristy but the number 6 and 4 buses run from very close to the hotel into Dubrovnik. The bus ride is about 10-15 minutes and tickets are cheap (cheaper if you by them from the kiosk rather than on the bus). The old town of Dubronik is definitely worth a few visits to explore the streets and walk the walls.
Very basic indeed
from A TripAdvisor MemberOur room had no balcony and the decor was like something out of the 70s - as we had booked 3 star we did expect basic, however the bathroom was the by far the biggest problem of our stay. The showerhead (although detachable) was only 3 feet high and we needed to kneel to wash our hair.
On the positive side - the room was clean, the staff helpful and it had reasonable poolside facilities.
The buffet food was a little monotonous, however the hotel was in a good location and within easy reach of the old town.
We would certainly recommend Croatia and would consider returning in the future - however we would more inclined to stay at a 4 star hotel in the resort.
Honeymoon at the Grand
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel has a great location and good facilities but if we were to stay again it would only be on a bed and breakfast basis.
Top Local Tips for Dubrovnik
Use the ferry for a day trip Various tour organisers offer trips to the Elaphiti Islands. Going by ferry from the main ferry terminal (No. 1a or 1b bus from Pile Gate) is cheaper (26 kuna - around £2.60 - return), allows you to control your own schedule and gives you a real feel for the islands.
the old city walls dont miss it ! no matter how worn out you are from all your sight seeing it has to be done! what an amazing expierience, lovely to be able to see the whole town in one go and to say oh look theres ....... when we got to the very top there are gaps between the turrets great for relaxing on while you get your breath back for the walk down . dangle your feet on the inside and lay back for a relaxing and exhilerating expierience feels like all the muscles in your body are being streched. Warning ! be careful.!
Lapad Beach - footwear! Lapad Beach is fairly functional - the beach itself is pebbly/rocky. However, the sea is fantastic - incredibly clean and clear and great for snorkelling (and there is a great beach bar). One major downside is that there are a lot of sea urchins in the nooks and crannies around the shore line so you may want to invest in some water sport shoes that you can wear in the water to avoid injury. (we wore our crocs which served the purpose)
