A few minutes walk from the center of Sofia and located in a very nice hill facing one of the main squares of Sofia (NDK) is minimalisticly decorated and represents the only hotel in Bulgaria which is run perfectly by any countries or establishment standards. The personnel is excellent, the quality of service unique. Food is average.

Top Local Tips for Sofia

Churches Do not miss to see Boyana Chruch dating from the 4th century with someoriginal wall paintings.Sofia is a city where people of 4 or more different religions and atheists live together peacefully. Go to Serdika metro station and see on the spot a mosque, a synagogue, a Christian church from Roman times (in the Balkan hotel complex) and Serdika orthodox church as well as the Statue of St. Sofia, the presidency and the Party HQ.

Don't accept offers from cabbies If you are at the airport and approached by someone offering to drive you into town, don't accept. We were offered a price of 22Lev to be driven to our hotel. We took a yellow taxi that pulled up at the airport and it cost us 8Lev!!!!

Generally safe Sofia is generally safe. Do be careful of pickpockets, however.
