We stayed at the Rila earlier this year and had a fantastic time. The room was large enough for the 3 of us, very warm, maid came in every day. I'd read lots of reports about the area and was worried as we were going with a 9 year old. However when we got there I was very suprised with the resort, it catered for ever age. OK so it might not be a five star hotel, but I've stayed in worse 4 star hotels in Spain. Food was not bad, there was always plenty of choice and it was always hot.
I would definitely recommend the hotel and ski resort of Borovetz.

Top Local Tips for Borovets

My tips Its best if you have your own equipment. ( SKIS ETC) Dont drink in the hotel go to the local resturants. Much cheaper. I would say to eat out. lots of good places to eat.

visit Plovdiv on way home If going to Plovdiv for the day, eat in Italian restaurant just off the main street - beautiful food and very very cheap.

Sofia On our last day we went on an arranged trip by our tour operator to Sofia, this was a enjoyable last day. If we had not gone there we would have spent our last day hanging around until pick up time approx. 6pm!! We couldn't have skied as hire had to be back in on the Friday evening and we had to be out of the hotel room by 12noon. The trip began at mid-day by coach, when we arrived the tour guide showed us some sights for about 1hr, then took us to a restaurant for a meal (included in the price of trip) we then had approx 3 hrs to do what we wanted before returning to coach to take us on the 15 mins journey to the airport.
