Be very careful about staying in this place

After driving through the beautiful Ardennes, we decided to stop off in La Roche En Ardenne and chose this particular hotel/accomodation because of its central location and the fact that we could have a first floor room (I was travelling with my mother and she has a disability which has impaired her mobility). The female proprietor wasn't altogether cheerful - something that I had not experienced before nor since in Belgium. I asked for a room for 2 people, but didn't state that I required 2 beds. When I had paid and we went to our room, we discovered that there was one double bed. I returned to reception and asked if we could be moved to another room containing 2 beds, but the landlady refused saying "you should have said you wanted 2 beds whren you were checking in". OK - my mistake. But I didn't understand why we couldn't have been moved to another room; the landlady also refused to give a refund as we had paid by credit card. We ended up paying for a second room. During the night, the curtain rail (in the first room!) fell down and it was apparent that it hadn't been secure for quite some time as the fittings were broken - and they were old breaks. In the morning when we were checking out, I told the landlady what had happened. She immediately blamed us for the breakage and demanded 60 euros for repairs - without even bothering to go and see what exactly had happened! I looked at her in disbelief, reminded her that I was advising her of what happened as a matter of courtesy (I didn't want to leave without making her aware of it) and told her straight that it was not our fault and that we wouldn't be paying 60 euros for repairs (honestly, the curtain could have been fixed for a maximum of 5-10 euros as all that was required was a nail and some superglue!) The landlady became extremely sullen, sending out negative non-verbals and muttering something in French to man at the bar (whom may also have had a share in the business and whom appeared to agree with her). I walked out without saying another word. We cancelled our credit card in case the hotel owners deducted extra money from it to cover the cost of the "damage" (I've used that term somewhat loosely!) Credit where it's due, breakfast was fabulous with fresh bread, a choice of warm drinks, fruit juice, a selection of meats and cheeses and a buffet of fresh fruit (something that's seldom seen on the continent). However, that is the only reason why I've upped the rating on the Resto Leon Grill Hotel to "2". We did not have a pleasant stay and will not return to this hotel based upon the begrudging hospitality of the hostess and her willingness to blame - and bill - paying guests for "damaging" a fitting that was already faulty.
