Top Local Tips for Ieper

Overated Museum in Ypres Town Dont waste your Money on visiting the "In Flanders Fields Museum",as it has changed from being a traditional war Museum into a Modern Art Display,which is constantly forcing the PEACE theme at the visitor,also the Books which they sell are very overpriced..A truly great Museum is that at Hooge Crater,which is one of the best Museums in the Salient,it is approx a Ten Minute Drive from Ypres and is well worth a visit,as is the Trench Museum at Hill 62.As another warning,the Bookshop near the Menin Gate..called "The British Grenadier" is another overpriced Shop lying in wait to ensnare the unsuspecting Tourist,all the Titles that he has in stock are available in the UK,but far cheaper.

Town Centre After attending the very moving "Last Post" nightly at Menin Gate at 8 o'clock sharp, walk down to the town centre and catch the unbelievably impressive sight of the Cloth Hall at dusk. With the floodlights lit, it looks liike a stage set. What a fantastic building - especailly in a town of only 11,000.

Tourist Centre Before travelling around the battlefields a trip to the Visitor Centre is essential.
