My husband and I stayed at the Flanders Lodge in May 07, and were so pleased that I'm making another reservation for later this year. The price was certainly reasonable, breakfast was included and very extensive. We had drinks in the bar and dinner in the dining room several nights and in all cases, service and meals were excellent. I'd also like to add that the desk personnel were always pleasant and answered all our questions patiently. We were traveling each day, so we liked having easy access to the highway, but Ieper is a wonderful city in itself and it was only a few miles to tour the town and have dinner in one of the outdoor cafes.

Last Post Ceremony & In Flanders Fields Museum Attending the Last Post Ceremony at 8pm at the Menin Gate is a must of you visit Ypres. Also, the In Flanders Field Museum is one of the best I have ever been to. It presents the history of Ypres and the history of WW1 so well I would recommend it to anyone. The additional display about the involvement of all the different nations and cultures is particularly interesting and educational. I especially appreciated how the display aimed to raise people's awareness of how the marginalised races from Canada, Australia, China, Vietnam and Africa were involved in the war but are only recently receiving proper recognition for their contribution.

WORLD WAR 1 MEMORIALS Take a good map/guide with you to find the sites that you are wanting to see. Don't hesitate to go off at a tangent down country lanes to view small, out of the way sites. They're well worth it. Ieper is an excellent centre for all of this type of activity, but be prepared to be astounded by the beauty, tranquillity and utter heart-wrenching sadness of the scenes that will greet you. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission do a wonderful job.
