All day drinks and meals are readily available from the traditional 'on-street' bar/restaurant at the front of the hotel. Service is efficient and prices realistic.
Dinner is served in the hotel restaurant which is attractive, and comfortably furnished; quality napery and cutlery add to the overall 'ambience.'
A varied menu is offered and the traveller on a budget can dine well without feeling intimidated by the potential cost. Equally, those wishing to celebrate can do so 'in-style' and the wine list offers some familiar names at affordable prices. To summarise: excellent food, good value and importantly, good service from friendly people.
Breakfast is inclusive in the room rate which, for my wife and I, was 75 euros, per night. The same (no formica tops here) good standards endure and I am confident the greater majority would be well-pleased with the fare.
We travelled by car from the UK to Belgium, with the intention of touring from a base in Bruges, where we initially stayed.
For the benefit of those who are 65 years or over, we discovered that it is possible to buy a 'return' rail ticket for four (yes, four) euros which will allow those who qualify by age, to travel anywhere in Belgium. My wife and I travelled from Bruges to Antwerp, from Bruges to Ghent and other locations for a joint cost of eight euros per return journey. The saving in parking fees, time, and related costs is considerable. The train really does 'take the strain,' in Belgium.
So what does the above have to do with an hotel review you may well ask? Quite simply, for those who can benefit from subsidised travel, it is easier and probably cost effective to stay at an hotel in a 'non-tourist' location than stay at one that is not. As a guide, our daily cost saving (and we don't count pennies) between hotels averaged about 45 euros. We found trains in Belgium are clean, frequent, reliable and on time.
As an example, the distance from Dijksmuide to Bruges is about 25 km, it takes about 20 minutes by train which runs every thirty minutes.
