A HOTEL TO AVOID

This is a hotel to be avoided !

First of all because it runs an organized scam, whereby customers who book their rooms through the internet travel agency "Rates to Go" (and possibly other agents) are charged an amount of 10% on top of the price specified on the travel voucher issued by the agent. The management is confronting the customer with this charge upon his/her arrival at the hotel, and explains that this is a "city tax" to be charged on top of the ordinary price of the room. (Which is of course not true !!) The trick is that the management has been able to insert a clause on the voucher stating "City tax not included", whereas during the booking procedure it is expressely stated that the price indicated on the voucher is inclusive of all charges and taxes !)

This is something that the management does systematically every day, and yet the hotel is put forward as "a recommended hotel" by the agent "Rates to Go". Unbelievable ! I have posted a complaint to the agent "Rates to Go'", but has, so far, not received any response; so the scam continues on on a daily basis.

Concerning the facilites and location of the hotel, I agree with a previous reviewer from the beginning of December 2006, that it is not much to recommend about this hotel. The only possible positive aspect is the price level. I found the room filthy, and especially the curtains. The room was not equipped for any other activities than reading in bed and sleeping. No light at the tiny worktable. The wardrobe was almost void of clothes hangers.
The breakfast-room was bright and clean, but the breakfast itself was the most rudimentary "buffet breakfast" that I have ever come across. I found the location of the hotel depressing.

Unpleasant: uncared for and not clean

As the previous review pointed out, the place is not luxurious which is to be expected for the price - no surprise there. That is fine.
What I didn't like is the immense feeling that the owners did not care for the place at all.
The furniture in the rooms is VERY outdated and often damaged. At one point wall-mounted lamps must have been replaced by ones of different shape without a follow up paint job leaving nasty looking patches on the walls. Broken sink glass shelf not replaced, wardrobe drawers visibly broken and never repaired.
Furthermore, everything you look at tells you that cleaning is not a priority: the net curtains in our room were sooo grey as if they have never been washed (I really didn't want to touch them!), the shower was mouldy and smelled mouldy, the table cloths in the breakfast room have stains down their sides that were there the whole time we were there (only the disposable paper table covers get exchanged between sittings), naughty guests dropped cigarette buds on the stairs which where never removed the whole time we were there.
For anyone who likes to see some "hotel" pride in the owner should not go to the Hotel Windsor. It is run by people that take neither care not pride.
I give it a 2 because the guy running the front desk is very friendly and helpful.

Hotel Windsor - Great Value & Convenient

I stumbled across this hotel many years ago, by accident, and have stayed there many times in the past. It is out of the way, on the picturesque little Place Rouppe, but is VERY convenient to the railway Station Midi (South Station), and a short and very pleasant walk from the Grand Place. Right across Place Rouppe is one of the finest 3-star restaurants in Belgium, and there are many other interesting restaurants in the vicinity. The management is very kind, courteous and helpful. It is not a lavish hotel, but a small family-run hotel of the old type. I do not rate it as a "10" because of luxuriousness, but because it is so friendly and suits my purposes so perfectly.
