An excellent modern hotel located slap bang in the middle. Couldn't be better unless you like snob value.
Great Location & great for family!

We wanted to find a hotel in Brussels that was close to Grand Place but was not too expensive. The Novotel exceeded our expectations for the price we paid, the location was fantastic and the facilities were great. We would thoroughly recommend the Novotel to anyone.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Novotel Grand Place Hotel

Very Nice Hotel, Perfect Location

from plainjane72
Received a great weekend rate at the Novotel ($89 w/ breakfast). Only three blocks from train (Gare Central) although I didn't recogize the hotel at first because it looked like a sleek Club inside. Rooms were very nice even by picky American standards (mini bar, coffee, hair dryers, three English channels on TV). The square it is situated on gets noisy and packed during weekend days (you may want to ask for a room looking out the rear of hotel) but hotel is steps away from Grand Place. I walked everywhere from here, Grand Sablon (wonderful antique market on Saturdays), Halles St Gery, Rue Nueve, St. Catherine, Palais Justice etc. There are a number of choices for breakfast just outside the door so need to purchase the breakfast package.

SIimply Wonderful

Great location, nice updated rooms.

from Katiekirby
We enjoyed our stay at the Novotel. It was the perfect location, easy walking distance to the Grand Place, as well as a number of shops, restaurants, and bars. Our room was very nice, and appeared to have been recently redone. We had excellent service from the front desk, with excellent suggestions for restaurants, bars, and places to shop. The only issue we had was that there was no internet available in our room. Apparently they have only equipped part of the rooms with wifi, so if this is an issue for you, make sure to request a room with service.

Perfectly situated and lovely...

After spending our first two nights in a hostel a few kilometers away, we were desperate to find reasonable accommodations. What is interesting about Brussels, and likely a few other European cities, is that you can often find the best deals simply by walking into the hotel itself and asking for the "weekend" rates. Most of the hotels' revenue is generated by business conferences during the week, so they lower their prices for tourists on the weekends.

Novotel provided us with a free upgrade to a lovely, clean room for aprox. 99 euros per night. They normally charge close to 200 (or so they claimed). We were also provided with breakfast vouchers for free, at a value of 12 euro per person per meal, something not normally advertised but done at our request.

The hotel has been renovated and the rooms are modern, stylish and downright comfortable. Being midway through our three week backpacking whirlwind, my wife and I spend almost an entire day in the room just to rest up. We watched movies on the LCD televisin and ate snacks at our leisure, like we were back at home for a brief respite. The bed was lovely, the bathroom was clean and spacious. We felt like were had received luxury for a fraction of the cost.

Perhaps two minor complaints: first, the shower door in our room leaked a little onto the floor and second, there was a built-in hot water governor on the shower which limited the shower temperature. I don't think this would phase too many people, as the water was quite warm, but for a guy like me who likes piping hot showers, it was a little under par... but not enough to ruin my experience by any means.

The restaurant in the hotel is nice, and the breakfasts were good. Of course, with the amount of street vendors and outdoor dining so close by it wasn't worth spending all our time in the hotel restaurant. Our one evening meal was a little subpar as the server did not know the menu items and we ended up with a pizza covered in anchovies. Blech.

All in all, this is a great hotel, close to the Grand Place and all the other tourist places. The staff our friendly and helpful. Remember to take a risk and walk in for weekend rates. They could save you a lot of money.

Very good

Stayed for a coupleof last nights during Christmas Markets festival.

Hotel is very modern and very clean.

We had two kids with us and our room rate included breakfast which was quite good and an excellent choice if you have kids.

There was a slight mix up with our booking but that was all sorted in 5 minutes. Staff helpful.

As stated on other reviews, location is great.

excellent hotel

Excellent modern attractive hotel.Extremely helpful staff. 150 yds to Gare Centrale & also Grand Place.Attractive architecture, dining room.Wasn't noisy on 2 weekend nights we were there! Ideal hotel in a beautiful city.

Beyond the expected!

We were staying for only night,, we had booked a Deluxe Room (room 216), online for only 95EUR, non refundable non changeable rate. We've stayed in similar priced hotels worldwide but this hotel is really a hidden gem. The interior is minimalist and stylish. Okay, if you're looking for a classical interior, this will be a big dissappointment, but that's not Novotel's vision, clearly. The room was not really big for a Deluxe Room, but this is normal sized for a Novotel. The clean, spotless room really struck us, you could virtually eat from the ground, that clean. Right, I've read in the reviews before, the breakfast is expensive, but this is okay, the buffet is big enough, however, I don't think that 15 EUR is justified but it certainly compensates with the hotel price. The staff was very friendly, helpfull and multilingual. We will certainly opt for this hotel next time we head to Brussels.

perfectly located

from chris036
The Novotel sits in a busy square containing several other hotel chains, a minute's walk from the Grand Place in the centre of Brussels. The hotel's decor is very modern, with bright colours and flat screen TVs in the lobby displaying hotel and room rate info.

Check-in was excellent, very friendly and simple. Keycard operated the 3 lifts for extra security. My room (405) on the 4th floor was rear facing - looking toward the fabulous Cathedral and Le Meridien Hotel. It was quite large, with separate wc and bathrooms, toiletries, large bath with stand-in shower, porch area with separate door into the bedroom, wardrobe, mini bar, tea/coffee facilites, flat screen remote TV, writing desk, large sofa, air con and double glazing.

My rate included breakfast and I thought it was great. Lots of choice, plenty of fresh fruit, a reasonable hot selection, and for the 1st time I've seen - Actimel Yoghurt drinks!

Being only 5 mins walk from Brussels Central rail station is an added incentive to stay here, and with most of Brussels' tourist sights within 30mins walk of the hotel I highly recommend you give it a try. For me it's full marks Novotel.

Good hotel in excellent location - recommended

from Crwydryn
Five of us needed an overnight stay in Brussels before catching a Eurostar train to London; we chose the Novotel off Grand' Place on the basis of TripAdvisor recommendations, and weren't disappointed. The location is great: in the historic centre of Brussels with the Grand' Place area, museums, galleries, shops and restaurants within five minutes' walk, but less than 10 minutes by taxi from Bruxelles-Midi station and the Eurostar terminal. We'd booked online and when we arrived there seemed to be two rooms reserved for each of us (a fault with the booking process, not the hotel); the efficient and very helpful staff at the desk soon sorted this out. Rooms were clean, well-maintained and comfortable, with several plus points: plenty of accessible power sockets, tea/coffee-making facilities, and excellent quiet air-conditioning which meant one could sleep with the windows closed without overheating. This is important since the location is lively and therefore pretty noisy outside, but the hotel itself was very quiet. The standard tariff advertised in the hotel is not cheap, but there are many good deals available online. Our package included the buffet breakfast, which was good quality (lovely fresh fruit salad) and varied, including some hot dishes and plenty of choice of breads, pastries, cheeses, cold meats, cereals, yogurts, preserves, fruit etc. Our only criticism, mentioned by a previous reviewer, was the real problem with getting hot drinks at breakfast; the hotel would benefit from making this process self-service, like the rest of the buffet, by installing drinks dispenser machines.

Sweet, modern, incredibly convenient hotel - online rates great

from VoiceDoctor
For a family of four, this convenient hotel was a great find, especially at the online non-refundable booking rates. It was clean, spacious by European standards and accomodated two children. I especially liked the concierge's recommendations for dinner and the early morning staff jumped at the chance to prepare us coffee and juice for our very early morning start (4:15) to the airport. At 85 Euro a wonderful place to stay.

Top Local Tips for Brussels

Gare Central SKip the cab and take the Airport Express. Just remember that there are no lifts (elevators) in the train stations.

Use the internet Google the top 10 things to do in Brussels and print them off if you want to hit several of the key tourist things.

The Grand Palace light show. If you are in Brussels in the summer, there is a light show at the Grand Palace at 10:00pm. It's set to music and I thought it was pretty cool.
