Luxurious hotel ideally situated for the Grand Place and transport systems. Very comfortable and well equipped rooms. Excellent breakfast facilities.

I have stayed at the Atlanta about 4 times in the last 18 months. It has a great central location close to a metro station and is just a few minutes walk from a number of good cafes and restaurants. The rooms are comfortable and the staff are friendly. My only criticism is the awful instant coffee served at breakfast (not typical for Belgium).

My wife, my young son and I stayed at the Atlanta Hotel in December 2004. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The room was very comfortable and the staff were very welcoming. Our only slight reservation was that the breakfast room can become very busy at certain times in the morning. The location is excellent and overall I would highly recommend the Atlanta Hotel.

I was on a business trip working for Earthwatch, an environmental charity in Oxford, so economy is an important decider and the Nh Atlanta was ideal. I had a number of meetings planned over a few days and found it well located near the centre of Brussels. It was clean and fairly quiet, with courteous and helpful staff. An easy walk to the walking streets in the evening left me so spoilt for choice of restaurants, that i didn't eat more than breakfast in the hotel which was a well presented and comprehensive buffet. A good choice for my purpose.

Loved The Atlanta

We stayed in the Atlanta the weekend of 8th July 2005 and have to say it was very comfortable and everything we wanted from a hotel. The location, although central, isn't the most pictureque but you only have to walk 5 minutes and you are in the hub of the restaurant district etc. The room was huge compared to other European equivalents. We had a twin room and each of the beds felt more like doubles. The bathroom was totally adequate, clean and large enough to house both a bath and a shower. However, the best surprise was the gym in the basement of the hotel. It is part of the Fitness First chain but free for guests in the hotel and is of a very high standard with all the equipment you need, helpful staff on standby, a coffee/refreshment area, TV's etc.

Although we didn't have cause to call on the services of the staff, they all seemed pleasant and polite.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel for a weekend break.

Nice rooms, Needs brighter staff

I have stayed in the hotel multiple times in 2003-4 and summer 2005. The rooms are clean with beautiful furniture. Bathrooms are nice, but not all standardised, eg some standard rooms have both power shower cabin and bath tube and some supposedly luxurious rooms only have showers. Soaps and relevant equipment are also not standardised -- they seem to depend on the cleaning staff's mood or availability. Breakfast includes very few warm things, coffee is self-served in the cup at a coffee machine (no pots of filter coffee available) and the hotel has stopped offering freshly prepared omelette. The most important problem is that old windows overlooking a pedestrian street have not been replaced upon the hotel's renovation, which makes those particular rooms very noisy at night (trucks come in for the waste or cleaning and even strolling people's voices are heard). Location is, in my view, very convenient, 5min walk to Grand Place and shopping is literally next door. Entrance to the metro is also very close, just 30 meters away. The accounting division and the front desk people, though sometimes helpful, are generally slow-moving and often unreliable in administrative things -- be sure to carry your room rate confirmation all the time! If you ask for your corporate invoice, they may end up sending it to you in 3 months, or even later, without worrying about collecting their money!

We stayed here at the end of May, double room for 50 a night B&B. For such a bargain price we did not have high hopes.. but what a great hotel. Choc on the pillow, huge bed, huge room. Duvets and crisp white sheets, freshly decorated with a big ornate mirror dominating the room which added a lot of light. We didn't have great views as seemed to face into a internal courtyard (terrible looking), but Brussels isn't exactly a pretty place anyway. Good hair dryer too and big white towelspretty sure it was air conditioned. The gym in the basement was fantastic (fitness first). Breakfats was best we had for our whole stay (we were in belgium for 2 weeks in 5 hotels). The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the old centre, but is is a pleasant enough walk and is right next to the main shopping street, which leads into the old town. Turn right though and you hit peep shows and porn shops... so it is on the dodgy edge of the city. Couldn't rate it higher though.

No air conditioning? What???

First, the positives - friendly staff and clean rooms.

But clearly the other reviewers of this hotel have not stayed during warm weather. My partner and I arrived on a very hot day in May and got to our room to find the room just as warm as outside! Even the chocolates on the pillow were melted! I thought that surely there was a problem with the A/C in our room. Went downstairs and was told that this four star hotel does not have air conditioning!! I then very politely pointed to my printout of the hotel's website where it clearly says the rooms are air conditioned. They said that what they have "is a sort of air conditioning but is more of a ventilator." That is NOT A/C - that's a fan!

The hotel staff was very friendly and apologetic - clearly this is not their fault but they were accomadating and offered us free breakfast on their rooftop café - which is lovely - as well as a shampoo kit.

Now I have to say that I love Europe and am now living in Paris so I really am not the typical critical American. But I have to say - Brussels is extremely dirty and disappointing. Aside from the Grand Place - which is strikingly beautiful - the city is dirty and on the Friday night we were there the streets were teeming with packs of teenagers, throwing beer bottles on the floor, screaming - streets around the hotel were covered with garbage and we were just really disappointed in the city as well as the hotel.

My suggestion? Don't stay in Brussels, don't stay in Bruges - if you really want to get an authentic, unspoiled taste of Belgium, stay in GHENT. Beautiful little city with canals, old churches and clock towers - just friendly local people and savvy tourists. Take day trips to Brussels and Bruges.

Finally to summarize our Brussels experience, when we looked at the tourist map on the street to see where we were, we couldn't help but laugh wildly when we saw the Flemish translation of "You are Here". At the height of our misery, the spot on the map said "U Bent Hier". How appropriate.

A Great Place to Stay

We stayed at the NH Atlanta for 5 nights in January. This is the quietest hotel in which I have ever stayed, and it was quite busy.
We found the staff at reception to be very professional and helpful.
The room was very spacious and very nicely decorated. The bathroom was huge by European standards.
The bed was very comfortable.
The staff at the restaurant/lounge was friendly. After our 2nd trip, the waitress recognized us and had our beverages ready for us.
There is an exercise room that appeared to be well-equipped.
Our only complaint was the breakfast. It was TOO expensive and the hot food was not hot. After the first morning we went across the street to a little sandwich shop and ate with the locals for a great price.
Be sure to buy a waffle on the street during your stay!!

Hotel Atlanta is in the very centre of Brussels. The Rue Neuve shopping street is just behind the corner. This definitely does not mean that Rue Neuve would be a nice or good shopping street, not at all... Brussels is not a dream for shoppers, and if you want something classy or stylish, it's better to walk to Avenue Louise and Boulevard de Waterloo.
My room at Atlanta was overlooking an ugly courtyard. The bathroom was okay and clean enough.
Breakfast is served on the top floor, but the food they serve was quite disappointing.
They seem to have reasonably good deals in the internet, but usually the breakfast is not included, and it's much too pricey to be what it is when you have to pay for it separately.
They are supposed to have a bar service in the lounge, but there was no-one to serve me anything... At the check-out they tried to charge me almost 40 Eur per night more than the deal was.

The room we had was very spacious and nicely decorated. The bathroom was one of the best we've had on our travels--lots of counter space and it seemed like the audio from the television was even piped into the room. There is plenty of storage space as well. The staff were very helpful -- but beware the breakfast offered on the top floor is 15 E per person per day!! It was one of the best continental type breakfasts but definitely nowhere near worth that much money. There is a health club housed in the basement which guests have free access to--again one of the best facilities I've seen. Located within short walk of Grand Palace. Also located near quite a few restauarants--even a Chi Chi's and Pizza Hut if you start to crave food from home. I would reocommend staying here.

I had a business trip in Brussels and booked the NH Atlanta for 5 days. The room (double) is large, clean and furnished nicely. The staff is friendly but not very helpful. For example, the staff has some problems in explaining how to get from point A to point B. The hotel offers a lot of extras but they are quite pricy. The breakfast is really disappointing for 19 Euro. However, the steaks and chips are great. All things considered, the hotel is ok.

Stayed in the NH in early January 2005. Staff very helpful and polite with a good sense of humour. Rooms very spacious and en suite facilites excellent, including separate shower. Breakfast is probably one of the best that any of us have experienced during our stays in various cities around Europe. Very well located, close to Grand Place, shops and railway stations. This lovely hotel certainly contributed to the 4 great days that we all spent in Brussels.

Really Nice Hotel in Excellent Location

We stayed here over New Year (28/12/04 - 02/01/05) and couldn't fault it! The hotel is located a few minutes walk from the Grand Place and surrounded by plenty of shops (which was very handy as KLM lost our luggage for a day and a half!) and restaurants of various styles and quality. It was also close to good public transport links and (thankfully) it was comfortably removed from the more seedy end of the Boulevard Adolphe Max (the end nearest the Gare du Nord) unlike many other brand hotels.

We paid extra for a deluxe room, which meant our room was spacious with a king-sized bed and large, well-equipped bathroom.

In general, the hotel was exceptionally clean and extremely well maintained and we found the staff very helpful and friendly (though my husband does speak French and we have found that usually helps to ensure better service in French-speaking nations!).

We were booked on a room only rate and so I have no experience of the breakfast. It did seem unnecessarily expensive to us so we ate in numerous little cafes very close to the hotel, which offered the traditional coffee and croissant at a fraction of the price. It also had the added benefit of allowing us to eat with the locals!

All in all, we had a lovely stay and would go back without hesitation.

Sightseeing in Brussels Take a tour for the highlights and then buy an all day ticket for the transportation system that will let you ride buses, trams and the subway all day long for one price and go see the things that interest you the most and the ticket is good for up to 5 people. It's a beautiful city and there is alot to see. Try the Belgium waffles from a street vendor, they are delicious.

Great food in Brussels Several Restaurants to try in Brussels: Raphael - just off the Grand Place offers several traditional Belgian meals, Le Maison de Cygne - located on the Grand Place (look for the swan statue), expensive but the food, service and wine list make this restaurant worth every penny, Belga Queen - located just off Place de Brouckere in an old bank with a beautiful stained glass ceiling, the food is fantastic at this popular newer restaurant.

brussels central We unfortunatly flew into Charlerloi aiorport on a sun with no direct train to Antwerp, took us 3 trains and 4 hours to get to the hotel. If you fly to brussels central 1 train journey 45 mins and you are at Antwerp central.
