I have stayed in Brussels many, many times and always return to the Hotel de la Madeleine! It's central location (right beside the Grand Place/Groot Markt) and proximity to good quality cafés and restaurants (right outside the door) makes it the perfect spot for visitors whom want a piece of the action without any hassle. Only a few minutes walk away is Brussels central railway station (hop on hop off tour buses stop here - tickets available on board) and there's a taxi rank right outside - however, for best rates to the airport, ask the staff at reception to order you a cab (35 euros one way in May 2005). The rooms are nice and clean if a little small, and corridors are very narrow and winding - some with steps in precarious places! However, one must remember that this is an old building which thankfully boasts a lift/elevator to all floors.
