Rooms are not big but convenient.
The location is ideal.
I have booked again on 6 June 2005 so it must have been good...

I have stayed in Brussels many, many times and always return to the Hotel de la Madeleine! It's central location (right beside the Grand Place/Groot Markt) and proximity to good quality cafés and restaurants (right outside the door) makes it the perfect spot for visitors whom want a piece of the action without any hassle. Only a few minutes walk away is Brussels central railway station (hop on hop off tour buses stop here - tickets available on board) and there's a taxi rank right outside - however, for best rates to the airport, ask the staff at reception to order you a cab (35 euros one way in May 2005). The rooms are nice and clean if a little small, and corridors are very narrow and winding - some with steps in precarious places! However, one must remember that this is an old building which thankfully boasts a lift/elevator to all floors. Breakfast is typically continental and included in the price, although I've always found it best to pop across the street to one of the many cafés to have something more filling/satisfying. There's always a plentiful supply of hot water at La Madeleine and all rooms have cable TV and are double glazed which keeps street noise out. The staff here are simply fabulous; always extremely pleasant and willing to provide local info - in fact, two of the guys there have come to know my face now and always greet me with a huge smile on check-in, just like old pals! Brilliant hotel, brilliant location - come to La Madeleine!

Top Local Tips for Brussels

Cheap drinkies If finding brussels a bit pricey go to the Celtic irish theme bar, normally I avoid all expat pubs like the plague but happy hour is 11am to 11pm with 1euro beers

Grand Place details Do spend a lot of time exploring the exquisite architecture of this famous square. I used my guide book to make sure I didn't miss some of the subtle accoutrements. If not, I'd have missed Reynard, the fox's pressence, and several more unique details. It's a ton of stuff crammed into a relatively small square. Do linger and savor all its intricate details. Do realize that there are eateries below the street level that are much less expensive, so consider those options as well. Spend your time appreciating the beauty and eat at "off peak" times to make sure you get seated and served in a more efficient manner. The hoards will be there along with you, at any time of year. Go for it!
