Went to Brussels for a romantic weekend, but the hotel was anything but royal! the room that my wife and I stayed in was s**t bedding never got changed, the chain on the window was broken (look like for a while(chain should of been there due to the lack of height from the wall to the window)) water stains on lamp shades, water stains on pictures, white marks on the sink counter top (could remove the mark by just using your finger nail!) no mini bar(but you could go down stairs to use the vending machines!!) The list just goes on and on...... please people don't stay there!!!

Beautiful hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
My boyfriend and I stayed at this hotel for three nights in October 2005 for a city break.

The hotel is absolutely beautifully done out in the Art Nouveau style, from the facade through the lobby, restaurant and corridors, and into the rooms. It has a very luxurious feel and we felt the decor and atmosphere really added to the quality of our break.

Cleanliness was good and the staff were friendly and helpful when contacted.

The breakfast is varied and of good quality, and we also ate dinner in the restaurant one night, which was delicious, although a long way from cheap.

The location is right next to the main shopping streets, but a good 15-20 minute walk from the main tourist sights and restaurant district, which can be tiring if you end up doing it two or three times a day. However there is a Metro station just metres from the hotel's back door which can save your legs.

Altogether a fine hotel and one to be recommended.

Gorgeous Rooms, Slummy Neighborhood

I stayed at the Crowne Plaza for two nights just two weeks ago. I have to say that, as a budget traveller, it was the nicest hotel I've ever stayed at in Europe. The hotel was recently renovated and had every amenity an American would want. Cable, air conditioning, a spacious bathroom, incredibly comfortable beds, and a helpful staff. It was clean and also very prettily decorated. The hotel is just a short walk to the Gare du Nord, and in the other direction, the shopping district and the Grand Place. However, the neighborhood of the hotel had lots of homeless people and a distinct and pervasive odor of urine in the streets. Also, we took a cab from Gare du Nord to the hotel when we got there, and the driver charged us 10 Euros for a two-minute car trip. He did, however, point out the way to the sites.

Not 5* and no Sleep better at Crowne Plaza advantage here!

Feb 26 and just got back from this hotel and it doesnt warrant its five star grading. The Nouveau rooms are only available on 2 floors and the refurbishment programmes is on going with a very strong smell of paint.
The positives:
Helpful staff they gave us a 1030 check-in at no extra cost, we were hoping to deposit our bags!
It has an excellent location the metro station Rogier is 2 mins walk.
Its less than 2 minutes from the heart of the shopping area.
Brussels Botanical gardens are across the street.
The Minuses:
Very expensive @ 25 euro for breakfast with a very poor selection and imagine NO WAFFLES and we're in Belguim!
It takes many attempts to have the staff correct any problems e.g.replacement of the broken remote, faulty lights in the bathroom and more pillows took 4 phone calls.
Less than adequate housekeeping, the toilet roll was not replaced, dirty teacups were left , carpet not vacuumed and they also forgot to replace the used tea/coffee items.

Currently the internet access does not work throughout the hotel and the programmes on the TV channels seem to be on a loop. Why else would I be able to watch the same things on TV 3 days running on MTV & the Yoga channels?

Very expensive break with no quality of service. I would suggest having breakfast next door in the Sheraton.

very nice hotel, but phone for a cab yourself!

the tube stop is right outside the hotel. breakfast was tasty and is available early in the morning. what i like the most was the nice view of city life from my window, which extends a bit, balconylike, outward for better viewing.

when i checked out and was presented with my bill i nearly fainted. it was double the rate that i expected. after a quick check they found their mistake and i paid my bill.

also i asked one of the persons who handled my checkout to call a taxi. the cab came and i was off. the cab had no meter. this taxi driver charged me €60 to go to the airport.later i found out this is double the standard fare.

i was a bit dissapointed by this hotel staff person that he would call such cabs knowing (as a local would know ) that they are not licensed and have a bad reputation.

if i worked in this hotel i would, as a client minded employee, only phone official taxi cabs for my clients.

apart from this i enjoyed my stay here and would stay again, but next time i will phone for a cab myself!

t believe the critics

I went to the Crowne Plaza in November of 2004. I was there for 4 nights, and my stay was wonderful! My room was very spacious, the service was friendly and efficient, and the location was excellent!

I took the metro from the airport to Gare du Nord. If you don't mind a walk, it's only about 10 minutes, about a mile in distance. When we arrived at the hotel, it was 8:00 A.M. Usually, check-in time is at 4:00 P.M., but the staff was easy to accomodate us with a room right away. Thank goodness!

As far as the beds go, they had to be one of the most comfortable beds in Europe. I have stayed at many 4 and 5-star hotels, none of them had the level of comfort that the Crowne Plaza did! We did have a couple problems with the maids not replacing or putting enough towels into the room. When the management got word of this, they hand delivered the towels personally, along with a couple freebies--robes and slippers. *Ask for Pepjin! He's so helpful and accomodating!*'re in Europe. Walk! The walk to the Grande Place is about 10 minutes...and the walk is refreshing. Not to mention, the hotel is across the street from the Rogier station. That station will take you to any connection your dear heart desires!

I understand that some may have had a bad experience...but I for one was in awe of my experience there, especially after reading the poor reviews the place had gotten. I do suggest staying at this hotel. It's affordable and comfortable. Besides, you don't go to Europe to stay in a hotel room! Get out and enjoy what the city has to offer, and be comforted to know you have a relaxing bed to crash on at night. If you truly enjoy yourself, I highly doubt any room would be an issue!

Not recommended if you 4 star quality

from RJB
This hotel has undergone a major refurbishment, but I still cannot recommend it if you want a four star experience.

Its hard to know where to start. Some rooms seem to have an Art Nouveau makeover, but not the standard ones. They have been redone but not to a high standard. They are small, have low saggy beds and, because the hotel is 'E' shaped, most rooms look directly into the room opposite.

I don't expect a four star bathroom to have plastic cups that come sealed in a bag. Neither do I expect the shower to be on the side, not end, of the bath giving you no room to move. I don't expect worn carpet, a half-broken TV remote control or a broken kettle. Neither do I expect my alarm call from a computerised system you set yourself via your phone to be 15 minutes late. However, the CP delivers all this and more.

The other reviews that mention a couple of adult video shops between the hotel and the Grand Place made me smile. If you walk behind the hotel for about two minutes, away from the centre, you find yourself in an Amsterdam-style red light area that is certainly not for the narrow minded.

Good points: it is next to Rogier Metro and 2 minutes from Nord station (where airport trains stop). It is also at the top end of the main shopping street. However, with the Hilton Brussels City literally next door and the Sheraton opposite, there is no reason to stay here even at the Euro 71 weekend rate.

If you want to stay in the heart of the tourist area, I passed a new-looking Ibis and Novotel built around a nice square near the Grand Place which may be worth a look.

would stay again

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at this hotel on a package coach tour. It was a bargain thought because we only paid £45 each for hotel and travel - and the room we had said it was £150 a night! so bargain.
Got room changed as we had booked a double and got a single but that was no problem. Had a massive roome overlooking the main square - so a little noisy but ok. The room was huge and the bathroom was luxurious. Bed was massive and comfy, tv was good (got bbc!) and the breakfast was a little cold but out of this world. I'd recommend this hotel - its central and pleasant but not paying the full price. Only one concern is that the park at the back is a bit dodgy and i didn't feel safe walking around Brussels at night.

Crowne Plaza City Centre was not what I expected

from tat2dhelen
I would definately not stay here again! We stayed here mid-June 2004. Paid 134 Euros for four of us.
Had a room with two double beds (these rooms are all non-smoking). The room felt very small (even by Europe's standards), the carpet in the room was extremely wore and we had a great view of the wall of the hotel next door. My biggest complaint was that the Crowne Plaza website for this hotel stated that it had washer/dryer facilities for guests, which we desperately needed and this was not true!
It's a 10 minute walk to the train station and 10 minute walk to the city centre.
On the plus side, the pillows were great but that's all that was.
The Crowne Plaza City Centre seemed like a wannabe Ritzy hotel. We'll stay elsewhere when we visit Brussels again.

great breakfasts!

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the Crowne Plaza last November for 2 nights. I had been a little dubious given how cheap we had got the last minute break for, but when we arrived we loved the hotel and really enjoyed exploring Brussels. The room was fine (great bathroom) and the hotel bar and restaurant were very luxorious. Great buffet breakfasts! Brussels was good for a weekend break but I wouldn't necessarily go back, too many other places in the world left to explore!

My Best Stay
