Top Local Tips for Brussels
Day pass at weekend If you are staying in Brussels at the weekend and plan on using Public Transport, the 1 day pass lets 2 people travel on the same ticket (it costs 4 euros). Make sure that you validate the ticket as there are regular inspections.
Get a day card or multi-day pass for public transportation You don't need a car in Brussels, so don't bother renting one unless you plan to travel extensively outside of Brussels. Public transportation will take you anywhere you want to go in the city. For solo travelers, I'd recommend taking the train if you want to travel outside the city, but families might want to rent a car. The day passes and multi-day passes allow you unlimited use of intra-city public transportation, and are well worth the price. Train travel outside the city can be expensive - if you can plan ahead and buy tickets in advance, you will save money. I'm not convinced the Eurail pass is the best bet - I've heard it can be tricky to use when you get there and you often have to pay supplements on top of the pass, so I didn't get one.
Trams When you buy your tram tickets remember: A 3 day ticket includes the day you first use it and lasts until mid night on the third day. Try and buy all the tickets you are going to need at the start. i.e. a 3 daty and a 1 day tram ticket. They last for a year or so and are only activated when first used. We found ticket machines outside the main stations and tram line junctions few and far between. Always put your ticket in the orange ticket machine when you get on a tram.

Our included breakfast was excellent, a wide choice, with bacon and eggs cooked to order.
The hotel situation was fine, with several restaurants and a supermarket within 200m, and the tram (1.50euros to anywhere) the same distance. The hotel bar was basic, but, again, plenty of reasonably priced bars nearby.
Would recommend this establishment to anybody, and for the 64 euros room and breakfast that we paid it is splendid value.
