Top Local Tips for Bruges
Excellent Restaraunt Food is generally expensive in Bruges, though most places are high quality. My wife and I especially enjoyed a dinner at Bao Bub a South African restaruant on Philipstockstraat. The service (the owner), and food were excellent, and the atmosphere was wonderful as well.
To and From the train station My advice, is to take a taxi. Spend the 5-10 Euros on a taxi that will take you right to your hotel. Yes, you could walk, as all of Brugge is very walkable, however, dragging luggage while trying to navigate the labyrinth of streets, really isn't very much fun. If you are staying near the center of town, ie. bell tower, this is a 15-20 minute walk without luggage. You could also take the bus, for just a euro or two, but this involves a little time in figuring out which bus to take and these are very crowded. Once again, if you are travelling with luggage, it's just a hassle you can do without. Save the walking for shopping and sight seeing.
South African Rest Bao Baoa was a nearby South African rest, with approx 30 covers, food all freshy prepared with excellent quality ingredients, and cooked to order in open plan kitchen in middle of rest. Ideal if you fancy some ostrich, widebeast, springbok, or crocodile. Zeebra available towards the summer months. The quality of these imported meats are brilliant and the food is beautifully cooked. A little more arty florish with perhaps the sauces, a quality place mat as opposed to paper and it would be up there competing for a star. An unusual find, lovely tastes and far better choice than the chinese on the same street, if you fancy something non flemish.
