Top Local Tips for Antwerp

SUNDAY SHOPPING - YOU CANT!! EXCEPT FOR DIAMONDS... In Belgium the only shops that are open on Sundays are the butcher and baker,everything else is well and truly closed!Supermarkets,shopping malls,dept stores...forget it.You may find a Spar or 7/11 type shop open but thats about it,so if you come for the weekend be prepared to hit the shops on Saturday and get everything you need,as you wont get another chance.The only other shops that are open on Sunday (but are closed on Saturday for religous reasons)are a lot of the gold/diamond shops on the Pelikaanstraat (Diamond Distrcit near Centraal Station) .
