Imaging ordering one meal in a restaurant and receiving a different one without any warning and being told that that is OK and another meal is as good (does not matter that you did not choose one). I booked and paid for hotel Regina several months ahead. On arrival, I was told that that was a mistake, hotel is fully booked and they sent me to another hotel (3 stars, not 4, as Regina claims it is), which, in my view was not the equivalent alternative (smaller rooms, worth location, lack of atmosphere). I tried to find out why did it happen and did not have a sensible answer. They obviously new it for a while before my arrival but did not bother to let me know. Why? I tried to explain them that I choose their hotel for a reason and if I wanted to choose another one, I will do it myself, not on their discretion. Their explanation was that the online system was not working properly when I was making the booking. Although they did not hesitate to charge my credit card, already knowing there is a problem. What is it ? Some kind of fraud? All they have to do is to let me know that there is a problem and I will change my booking according to MY preferences, instead thaey processed my credit card and issued a confirmation voucher. Also I can not understand why I did not get my booking despite it has been done more than three months ahead and has been paid for upfront. Extremely unhappy with their attitude towards clients.

The worst hotel I ever stayed

The hotel lobby was lovely and well maintained, but the guest room wasn't. It was annoying the noise of creak the floor. The bed and quilt was very 'antique'. Soon after a porter brings my luggage into the room, I was handed a piece of paper, which is 'security note'. It's no wonder why there were many damaged marks on the door. The bath room was very small, old, and smelled moldy. The tub was very tiny and dangerously slippery.

The mini bar was not properly maintained. Five of the bottles were already opened and 4 of them were filled with something different. Phlegm like substance was floating in the bottle. When I complained it to a lady at the front desk, her attitude was very rude and mean. She said with loud voice 'I said I am sorry, and I will tell someone to bring new bottles, OK? What is your problem then?' It's hard to believe that someone who doesn't know civilized manner was in a four-star hotel's front desk. I visit Vienna regularly and have tired many hotels in the city. Of course there are some below-average hotels, but Hotel Regina was the worst hotel in my whole experience.

Top Local Tips for Vienna

Vienna is Affordable Use public transportation to get around. Parking is expensive and driving is a pain. The public transportationis excellent and convenient. There are plenty of options for tickets depending on your needs. Just search Vienna public transportation and you will find plenty of information and even schedules. You can fly into Bratislava and take the bus from Bratislava (Eurolines) to the Vienna Sudbahnhof (11.1 Euros return) and then take the U-bahn or a tram from the sudbahnhof to whereever you need to go.

Travel card You can get CAT (City Airport Train) from the airport to Vienna for 30Euros return, you can buy this online ahead of time if preferred. The CAT takes just 16mins nonstop to reach Vienna. You can then get a 3 day travel pass (if staying for the weekend) and this covers you for all trams trains and the metro. Once you've bought the ticket you must validate it at one of the stamping machines in the station lobby (generally near the escalators to the platforms) the you're ready to go.

Try the hot chocolate Must visit the chocolate shop OBERLAA and drink hot chocolate and try the traditional restaurants in the back streets. Don't miss the Sissy Palace
