Room large and clean, serviced daily. Good location, close of everything. Old building, lounge very small, no restaurant. Poor breakfast, so-so helpfull front desk personnel. Very small and expensive parking- EU18/day. Expensive at EU178 or so/night. Would I go again? Maybe if no other option available. Rated 4*, that's absurd, 3* is more appropriate.

Top Local Tips for Vienna

A city with grace and dignity The buildings, the history, the culture, the scene, it's all there. It's impossible to pick one out. One of the top 5 cities in Europe!! Use the CAT train to get to the City from the Airport, cheap and fast. Public transport is cheap and very good, trams, buses and undergrounds.

Skip the Sacher and the breakfast buffet -- you can do better. Skip the Sacher Cafe (part of Hotel Sacher) next to the Opera House. A noisy, bland, tourist attraction, the cafe has little in the way of elegance, and the waiters will bustle you out before you've so much as ordered. The Sacher Torte is highly overated (not to mention overpriced), and the atmosphere there is at complete odds with a real Vienna coffee house. You can do better, and you will if you're willing to look (in a travel book, on the street...). Ditto the breakfast buffet at the Mercure: at fourteen euros, it was a bit expensive for me, although it may be more convenient for families, larger groups, etc. The Cafe Museum, located around the corner from the hotel, has a pleasant atmosphere, outdoor seating, and a fantastic menu (in English and German). Spend at least one day without the buffet and try the grilled ham and cheese or pancakes with apricot jam.

Vienna do's and don't's Sacher tort overated, learn metro and CAT and save on getting to and from airport, take a bus tour your 1st day to get oriented, try local foods at the naschmarkt, Austrian red wines not so good, wine pours are not generous, drink beer.
