Grand Hotel is grand!

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Grand Hotel for a weekend based on the TripAdvisor reviews and we absolutely loved it! The hotel was decorated for the holidays and gorgeous - very classy without being stuffy or overly formal. Our room was perfect - comfortable bed, large bathroom - and the chocolates on the pillows were delicious. There's a huge breakfast buffet til rather late in the morning and the bar is a lovely place to grab a drink at the end of the night. We will definitely stay there again!

Beautiful Room, Excellent Location, Poor Service

I stayed at the Grand Hotel Wien for a business meeting in October 2006. The room was absolutely beautiful with ornate features including 15 foot ceilings. The bathroom was modern with all the fixtures of a top American hotel (i.e., double sinks, separate toilet, whirlpool tub, etc.).

The location was ideal - just around the corner from the prime shopping district and a 5 minute walk from the main cathedral. The subway entrance was less than a block from the main entrance.

My only complaint would be the service. I had to call and request an iron twice and waited about 45 minutes for it to be delivered. The maid did not even bother to knock on the door but barged in. When he set up the ironing board, it collapsed on me because he didn't lock it. We also called and requested a blowdryer as ours kept shorting, but we never received one.

They know what a 5 star hotel is supposed to be. We had a fantastic experience at this hotel. From the moment that we arrived until we left the staff was attentive and met every request that we had. The hotel is in excellent condition, the rooms are very nice furnished. Excellent bathrooms too.
We only had one small issue that arose when the fuse blew and our room was completely dark. We called the reception desk
and within 10 minutes (it was already 11pm), a maintenance person was already repairing the fuse.
We would highly recommend this hotel. We look forward to returning to Vienna to stay at the Grand Hotel Vienna.

A top class hotel. Location is perfect within easy walking distance of all major sites. Lots of restaurants close by. Rooms are large and very classy. Bathrooms are marble, large, and very clean. Service is great and staff are friendly. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
My only complaint is that the fitness room has dated treadmills. That having been said, I've not found many even 5 star hotels in Europe to have great fitness facilities. The exception being the Hyatt Berlin which is a relatively new hotel. There was too much to see and do in Vienna to care but I just mention it.

Very Good Hotel

Stayed here as part of a business group June 18-21. The hotel was extremely professional and helpful with all of our requests, and from check-in to check-out the stay was hassle free and well worth the money.

The hotel location is fantastic on the ring road, not far from the train station (Express trains) to the airport, and close to good restaurants, the opera, and the centre of the city. It was really hot for Vienna when I was there too, and the air conditioning was well appreciated.

The rooms are to a very high standard and spacious. The business centre is a little disappointing with only one computer, but printing was free and access free as well.

Overall a great place to stay in Vienna. I have stayed at the Marriott down the road in Vienna as well, and the Grand Hotel Wien was head and shoulders above the Marriott.

The Grand Hotel Wien is simply a leader in all world hotels and, with Vienna being our first stop amongst numerous beautiful European cities, it set a very high standards for our future hotel visits. The Grand very successfully marries tradition and cutting-edge technology, an example of which being the beautiful, ornate crown mouldings with a highly technologically advanced telephone just below it. The Grand's telephone system is truly out of this world - the sleek unit controls everything in the room from the drapes to lights, turns on the do not disturb button, etc., and of course makes calls to various departments in the hotel. Where the Grand Hotel seemed to be quite behind in technology was with the SOS buttons found in most showers in Euro hotels. At my subsequent stays, the SOS buttons had to be pulled and were very difficult to push if you did not want to. At the Grand, however, I bumped the SOS button with my leg and we immediately got a call enquiring if First Aid was necessary, etc. This was quite an unnecessary hassle, and while SOS buttons are an excellent precuationary measure, they should be placed so that they do not cause an excessive number of false alarms.

The room at the Grand, matched by its service, was exemplary. The only flaw throughout the whole stay was, unfortunately, quite a major one. As I was traveling with my spouse, my son, and my mother, I had requested a room with a King bed adjacent to a room with two double beds. This was confirmed but, alas, not honoured. My son had to sleep on a measly rollaway cot thrust in the corner of the room and we then had to move the next night to the rooms that we requested but had not been reserved for our check-in. We were, admittedly, on holiday, and had the time to make such adjustments and the good spirits to ignore such flaws, but it would have been nice to avoid this inconvenience. The decor of the recently renovated and upgraded rooms was superb. While the atmosphere of a bygone era was doubtlessly evoked, it was not accompanied by frumpy furniture and musty smells. Also, the temperature was kept at a perfect 21°C for the duration of the stay. The bathroom was also sumptuous, with a separate room for the toilet and bidet, and double sinks in both bathrooms. Many amenities were provided that are expected at such acclaimed hotels, such as the hotel's toiletry collection, slippers, a bath robe, a shoe horn, etc.

The Grand is in a superb location for any purpose in Vienna, right on the Kartnerstrasse at the crossroads of commerce, dining, fashion, entertainment, and culture. A station for the highly safe and sleek underground, the U-Bahn, can be found nearby, and the city's very aesthetically pleasing trams line the ring road on a frequent basis. The hotel hosts a diverse profile of restaurants. We tried the highly pleasing cafe on ground level for a light dinner, but the 7th floor fine dining establishment, Le Ciel, also sounded marvelous.

As always, it is the small touches and personal care that made the stay more enjoyable. The staff were continually visibly concerned about our well-being and enjoyment of Vienna, without intruding our privacy or personal space. They ensured that the excellent lifestyle that a city like Vienna affords was reflected in the refinement and elegance of the Grand Hotel Wien, truly deserving of its title.

wonderful hotel

Stayed at Grand Hotel 5/14-5/19/06 and had a wonderful stay. The service was top notch all around from concierge to room service. The location is ideal for sightseeing. Hotel arranged opera tickets with one day notice- great seats for "sold-out" performance. Breakfast at Grand Cafe was very good. Room service was also quite good and prompt.

The rooms are lovely. I stayed in an exclusive room, but also saw the superior and deluxe rooms which were also quite nice. The beds are very comfy. Loved the touch screen system for controlling lights/drapes/tv/radio, etc.

The staff were all wonderful. The english is impeccable from the front desk to the wait staff in the restaurants. Needless to say, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Hotel lovely but service very poor, very poor for a five star!!!
Left over an hour waiting to be asked about dessert or coffee in the Grand Cafe??
Put us off trying Le Ciel, went out to local resturant instead.
2nd day, coming back at 13.30 and our room still not made up?
Returning in the afternoon and turn down received but mini bar bottles and dressing gowns still where we left them, oh dear!!
We have recevied better service in a b& b!!!
We were not the only clients to comment.

Perfect for location, service, serenity, and amenities

In a neighborhood of fine hotels, hard by the Staatsoper, the Grand is both convenient and fine, but also welcoming, quiet, and discrete. Conciereges are most helpful. Service staff are extremely friendly and on the ball. Rooms are quiet and nice.

Why not Ranked in Vienna Hotels?

After my experience here, I'm concerned people aren't finding out about this hotel because it's not ranked under Vienna hotels in Trip Advisor.

Excellent service and location, and best of all, heated bathroom floor which was a nice touch.

While the standard room wasn't huge, it was tastefully decorated, and bathroom was very good size. Highly recommend this hotel.

Top Local Tips for Vienna

Belvedere Museums This is our second trip to Vienna. The first time we did not visit the Belvedere Museum (there are so many in Vienna to choose from!) and thiswas a mistake. The Belvedere Museums (upper and lower) are situated in this amazing garden and it is worth seeing. The food at the Upper Belvedere Cafe is also quite good!

Sacher waste Don't bother going to the Sacher hotel for Sachertorte - very superior staff, you have to check in your coats and pay a euro to do so, the torte itself is basically a dry chocolate cake and it's just not worth it, it was the only time during our stay that we felt like mere tourists to exploit.
