Firstly, it's location is great. It is opposite the ski hire shop so you don't have to walk too far to lug your gear back to your hotel and behind the ski hire shop is the nursery slope in which you can get the button lift up to the gondola to all the other runs. This means you hardly have to walk or alternativley you could walk the 5 minutes up the road.
The hotel is however a 5-10 minute walk to the village.
The staff are very friendly and efficient, offering help wherever possible, especially the lady in charge but also Hildergart who runs the restaurant area.
The hotel makes great use out of a modern keypad (keycode) system in which instead of you key hung on a peg at reception where anyone can take your key, it is put in a slot, locked and can only be unlocked by you punching in your keycode to release the key. You also use this code for getting into the boot room, luggage room and into the hotel late at night. This system is great for the security of the hotel.
The food is very nice with a buffet style breakfast (bread rolls, cheeses, hams, jams, toast etc.) The evening meals are often 5 courses consisting of a starters buffet, soup, salad buffet, main meal and dessert. The main meals are of a high standard but on occasion can be a bit posh for my liking. The meals could be improved if their was a choice.
The hotel has a very modern and up to date boot / ski room which I think has recently been done. There are heated pegs for boots which dry them out and make them nice and warm when you put them back on and an area for skis to be stored with individual slots for each pair of skis. This room could just do with a bit more seating for getting your boots on.
The rooms are pleasant with very cosy beds, duvets and pillows ensuring a great nights sleep. The TV has 37 channels including MTV, CNN etc. and the room also has a radio.
Our room had a shared balcony with views of the mountains however I rarely went out due to the cold but it is good for chilling your drinks out there. The room's decor was okay with neutral colours and a wood finish. There was a good amount of space with a large built in wardrobe.
The cleaners are very quick and efficent often cleaning the room whilst you are at breakfast.
Areas for improvement is that it does not have a lounge, only a small room with 3 tables plus there is nowhere to go for food when the restaurant is closed as it only opens for breakfast and dinner.
In conclusion the Bergland hotel in Soll, Austria is a great friendly place to stay in a great location for skiing. I would strongly recommend staying there again as it was the basis for a great holiday.
