Not a good hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel should be rated with only 2 stars and not more!

When I first arrived I was so impressed by the modern and warm reception area. However, when I arrived to my room I was very disappointed because of the following reasons:

1. My room smelt like it had been closed for months!
2. There was no heating! I was given a small heater to keep warm while in my room and had to keep it on constantly!
3. The noise. I could hear people coming and going, doors banging, the cleaner's each morning, etc... I had to wear ear buds so I was not woken up in the morning.
4. The carpet in my room and in the hallway was old, tacky and constantly dirty.

The only positive points about this hotel are:

1. The modern reception area
2. The rich buffet breakfast provided (although expensive - 14 euro/person)
3. Free internet for guests (2 computers available)

I personally won't ever stay in this hotel chain again and don’t recommend other people should either unless this hotel upgrades their rooms ASAP!

Little Gem

We booked this hotel as part of a last minute holiday; we had an idea of what to expect from other reviews on this site and we couldn't have asked for more given the price.

We arrived at 10am, 4 hours before the check-in time and we were given our room immediately! This was a great bonus as we had been up since 1:30am; this allowed us to grab some much needed sleep before spending a very enjoyable day in Salzburg.

The rooms were very clean, well kept and modern. The service that we encountered (which wasn't a huge amount as we didn't spend much time in the hotel) was brilliant and we even managed to get room service 20 minutes after the service deadline.

The location is superb; within 15 minutes walk of most attractions. The breakfast, as mentioned by others, is a little expensive at 14 Euros per person; however, there is a Spar at the end of the road on which the hotel sits, together with the various bakeries just round the corner most tastes should be catered for. We also discovered that the fridge is just large enough to house bottles of water, wine and beer for those that don’t want to drink at the bar every night.

To cap a great stay we were able to leave our luggage in storage after we checked out; this enabled us to do some Christmas shopping before leaving (buy your Gluhwein and Mozart chocolates from the supermarket just on the other side of the river, you’ll save lots of money).

NB: As an update on previous comments, there is a specific service offered by the hotel whereby you can choose from 4 different pillow types!

Our top tips for Salzburg:

?Don’t go to the wax museum; it has very little to do with Mozart and in our opinion it isn’t worth the entrance fee.

?Try the ice skating in Mozart Plaza, it is great fun; on a Wednesday it is student night which might sound off-putting, however, we met many other English speaking people who were of a similar skill to us (bad!!!).

?The restaurant we would recommend is called “Gablerbrau”, it is located on Linzergasse which is within 10 minutes walk of the hotel. The food comes in very generous portions (especially the starters) and is very tasty. We ate there twice and it cost us under 50 Euros each time (2 people for two courses including wine).

?Another lovely excursion is the Mozart dinner concert at St Peters in the Stiftskeller; quite an expensive evening especially because of the wine, which is extra. It was however, very romantic and enjoyable.

The room was nicely (modernly) decorated and clean and the staff were very helpful. The breakfast and refreshments are costly and therefore use the bakeries and supermarket located at the top of the road where prices are more reasonable. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room, the pillows are slightly too thin and the hand soap was irritating. However on the whole the hotel was fine and has free access to the internet and is relatively near to the tourist sites. You can store your luggage with them for free if you arrive before check-in time and once you have checked out before your flight.

Great hotel for good price!

Last weekend we stayed in the NH Salzburg. Friendly staff, nice modern room, clean bathroom. We booked it with hrs.de for 67€ however didn`t book the breakfast (14€ pp is to much). Good location, just around the corner of Linzer Gasse. Tip: Brewery "Weisse" about 5min walking, great beer and typical food.

Decent Hotel

This is a 3-star hotel. The lobby looks nice but the room was a bit old and shabby. The room smells like cigarette smoking. But the location is within walking distance to the historical site. Beware of the breakfast: The receptionist staff said the breakfast was included in our hotel voucher and the next receiptionist staff said the breakfast was not included. So, check with your travel agent.

Great location

Great central location. Walking distance from all city centre attractions. Staff very polite, rooms spotless. Delicious breakfast buffet kept us going all day. Recently refurbished rooms are all very modern looking. Only 10 mins by cab from airport. Only complaint was that building work is going on directly next to the hotel which makes for noisy early morning wake up calls!

Excellent Service at the NH Salzburg!

from A TripAdvisor Member
The Staff and Location of the NH Salzburg is OUTSTANDING!! Our family (6 adults) spent 4 nights at the NH Salzburg in early December '04 and we had a wonderful time. The Staff at the Reception Desk was very cordial and most helpful; the Staff in the Bar and Dining Room were very friendly and hospitable. The daily breakfasts (included in room rate) were superb!! The rooms were spacious and very clean. While the bathroom had obviously been remodeled and was quite nice, our double room could have been more updated --to live up to the hotel's 4-star rating. I would have rated this hotel as "EXCELLENT", had it not been for our (lower floor) rooms being somewhat outdated.
However, this will not preclude us from staying at the NH Salzburg on our next visit to this fabulous city.

Clean and Modern

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is clean and modern. It was a pleasant place to stay. The location is good, just a block from the pedestrian shopping district's start. The rooms are large and very confortable. The front desk staff was helpful and friendly. It has a restaurant, although it is quite expensive and there are plenty of good cafes nearby. The lobby is nice and has a comfortable bar. The rooms have all the aminities you would expect - perfect for business travel of a nice weekend visit (like we enjoyed recently).

Great Place to Stay

from PDXSYD
I stayed at the hotel for three nights in June. The room was excellent. Location was good - just a few minutes walk to the main sights of the city and close to the train station. A very nice place which I would recommend.

Definitely not a 4-star hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
I stayed at this hotel for two nights in August of this year (2004). The staff at the reception desk were friendly and helpful, but my room was not very clean or luxurious. The bathtub had mold growing in the corner of it and the table tops had not been wiped down since (at least) the last time the room had been used. In addition, the toilet paper quality was similar to newspaper (I found better quality tp at the public toilet in the Old Town), the curtains were coming down, the carpet was worn, and the room appeared to have been last redecorated in the 1970s. I can live with ageing carpet and antiquated decorations, but I cannot tolerate a dirty hotel room. I will not stay there again because it was not clean.
