Fantastic Hotel Auersperg
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe hotel was superb.
The staff were extremely efficient and on returning to England and Staying in the Marriot in Coventry it made us realise how poor the service generally is in England.
The rooms were spotlessly clean, linen was changed each day and the bathrooms were lovely.
The Hotel is cosy and in a great location only a ten minute walk to town but out of the hussle and bussle.
A couple of must do's Drinks at the Hotel Stein roof terrace bar outside with blankets and patio heaters and fantastic views of Salzburg and the mountain.
Also we had dinner at the Pffershief restaurant one night. It is a taxi ride out of town eye wateringly expensive but is michellin starred and the food was fantastic.
A three course dinner for two with 2 bottles of red wine and brandys was £ 200.00.
Book before you go to Salzburg because they are fully booked weeks in advance.
Cheers

from A TripAdvisor MemberNice Hotel, Accomodating Staff
from sdn123Will Not Return? Must have the wrong hotel..
from NidgehammerThe quality of the breakfasts has already been mentioned and I fully concur with those, good selection and available from 7am-11am every day of the week.
The hotel has a very relaxed feel about it, from the soothing piped music to the quietly courteous and helpful staff at reception. Then of course there's the sauna and steamroom on the top floor (although as a repressed Englishman, I didn't quite have the courage to strip naked as is the Austrian way!) - the area also has lounging chairs and a cd player for more chillout effect.
The bar area is very pleasant and open until until 1am, which is really quite late enough in such a sleepy but beautiful city (YOU try finding a restaurant to serve you after 10pm..!). The young lady working in the bar went to great lengths to recommend bars and restaurants and all of her suggestions were good. We found that the locals are rightly very proud of their city and want you to enjoy it as much as possible.
The Auersperg is not located in what would be considered the centre of the town but it's a very enjoyable 10-15 minute stroll to the south side of the river and only adds to the peacefullness of the location.
If I had one small grouch it would be that the bathroom we had was too small but that really is a minor point and hardly worthy of mention.
We're going back there, try and stop us..
Wonderful hospitality in a wonderful city
from Chimp123Comfortable and Stylish
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe breakfasts were VERY yummy and quick. We also had a fast lunch on the terrace one day which was delightful, and we had a couple of drinks in the hotel bar (the bartender made my husband a very good Manhattan and my wine was very tasty - we were pleasantly surprised and lingered there longer than we thought we would).
The people at the front desk were fluent in English and very helpful, and they acted as the jack of all trades. They acted as receptionist, front-desk clerk and concierge, and they had very good restaurant and sightseeing recommendations - overall VERY helpful. There is also internet access & a printer provided free of charge - sometimes there was a wait but people were generally pretty courteous if you were waiting.
By the way, this place is NOT in the true heart of the old city - it's probably a 10 minute walk which as long as you know that in advance, it will suit you just fine. It was actually a nice walk along streets with some window shopping as well as some nice cafes. An added plus is that if you have a car, it is NOT a pedestrian-only zone right where the hotel is located, so you can easily drive right in and the parking is free...no hassles. We drove to the ice caves, the salt mines, Eagles Nest and Konigsee - all very nice places to visit which we would recommend.
All in all, this place really was a pleasant surprise for us. We would stay here again if we came back to Salzburg.
Absolutely fabulous!
from A TripAdvisor MemberSo friendly
from danwillisHowever, what makes the hotel really exceptional is the staff. I can honestly say that in all our years of travelling we have never met such friendliness, cheerfulness and a genuine willingness to be as helpful as possible. Nothing was too much trouble. All of them - receptionists, breakfast staff, bar staff - were marvellous. We certainly hope to return.
A tip: ask for a room overlooking the garden if possible.
Average plus
from A TripAdvisor MemberAuersperg was terrific
from NinaKPaloAlto_CAWe (seniors) found it an easy walk to the old town as well as to the Mozartium. We were given a junior suite and enjoyed its space and ammenities. The solarium on the top floor is inviting and the little garden is charming. Breakfast is generous and tasty and served in a newly decorated light and bright room. The reception staff was charming and very helpful. There are little goodies like fresh fruit and several English newspapers and magazines daily - Free parking. We highly recommend it.
Top Local Tips for Salzburg
cheap gifts We popped in to a little grocery store call SPAR. I picked up little bottles of schnapps/brandy shaped like violins for 3 euros each...I saw them for much more elsewhere. We also picked up Mozartballs for less here as well. Market was at Linzergasse 57. Lots of neat things to grab and go...including batteries!
Use the trains! Use the trains in Austria. The country is covered with an extensive network of trains that run ON TIME. All major centres connected with several services each day. They are clean and fairly priced by UK standards.

The room was small and not all that well kept especially for the price but the biggest letdown was the chilly service.
The website has a lot of wonderful pictures, but that did not correspond at all with the dumpy joint we found on arrival.
