This is an excelent Hotel with verry verry nice people. I had great holidays there. The Receptionists have great ideas for wonderful tourist-tours. The rooms are excelent.

Good choice

We have just returned from a long weekend at this hotel in Salzburg. After viewing it on the internet we made this choice and were not dissapointed. We stayed in the deluxe double suite and found it exceptional. The staff were friendly, breakfast was great and the hotel had plenty of character and was spotless. It was a little further out from the old town than we anticipated but still only 10 - 15 minuite walk. We would certainly reccomend it and return on any future visits

Spent a night at this hotel and was glad when I could leave. Tiny single room with small bed. Amenities as per previous reviews squeezed in. At night, a steady flow of ice cold air easily penetrated the closed windows as well as the thin duvet on my bed. Heating was switched off by the hotel for part of the night, but I don`t think it would have made much difference. On the confirmation from my travel agent it said: Room rate EUR ... plus breakfast EUR ... I could not take the breakfast due to departure early morning. The hotel charged me for it nevertheless. On the bill it simply said: Logis. Well, I will find another lodging for my future stays in Salzburg.

"a steady flow of ice cold air easily...": our fairly new windows consist of 4 wings, each wing has 3 glasses, which is a very expensive special construction concerning noise-protection and isolation. Perhaps the window was not quite closed? The check of our heating-computer showed that the room-temperature was always between 22 and 20°C (during the night the temperature is slightly lower). "I could not take the breakfast due..": breakfast starts at about 6.30 a.m., check out of the guest was at 7.10 a.m., therefore we thought the guest had taken breakfast. He did not say that there was no breakfast taken, in which case, of course, we would have cancelled the breakfast from the bill. "Tiny single room..": The size of the room is 11,05m2, the whole unit has 15,92m2. The austrian government category-directions say a minimum size of 9m2 for the room in the 4stars category. The single bed is 2 meters long and 90cm wide. The blanket is a high-quality feather duvet . We have never had any complaints on these points before.

Great place to stay in Salzburg

Room was spacious. Well equipped bathroom. Very clean. The restaurant served very good food, delicious desserts, and super breakfast--best ham we have ever eaten. And the bar is clearly a local gathering place. Easy to drive to but a bit of a walk to the sights. But public transportation is next door.

Stayed only a night here on a business trip to Salzburg in October 2004. Have to say it was excellent. Don't be put off by the Best Western brand (I understand that in the US they have a reputation of not being very good?). Spotlessly clean. Good shower (some rooms have bathtub, I think). Nice Mozart choc on your pillow each night! Friendly service. Didn't try the restaurant for food, but it was pretty busy - a good sign - and the beer was superb! If there were anything to slightly complain about it would have to be that the room was a little too warm - I couldn't quite comprehend the idea of using airco in October to cool it down! Would definitely stay here again.

I stayed at the Zum Hirschen for three nights in October. I can recommend this hotel to everyone.
It is clean and quiet, in a very good location (15 min nice walking to city center, 2 min to railway station) and has a very good restaurant.
Will stay there on any further trips to Salzburg!

The "Zum Hirschen" has been the best hotel we were living in during our trip through Europe.
Not only the lovely very clean rooms, also the very kind and helpful staff made our stay an unforgettable one.
Big parking place right behind the house.
Very nice finish sauna complex
Not to forget: The "Hirschenwirt" restaurant which serves excellent regional dishes.

Excellent - would stay again

We booked this hotel at the last minute and were very pleased with it. It is a five minute walk from the station, and very easy to find. The room we had was large, with a separate seating area and a huge bathroom. We had no problems with neighbouring room noise (although we were at the end of the corridor), and the aircon was silent!

The breakfast was very good - lots of choice and plenty of food, and the evening 'snack' we had on arrival was also very nice (as was the beer). Two Mozart chocolates each morning after the room was cleaned was a nice touch, although after a week in Austria we found you can only eat so many of these!

It is a 10/15 minute walk to the town centre, but you can stroll through Mirabelle Gardens, so it is very pleasant.

All in all, a very comfortable, clean hotel at a reasonable rate (we paid 95 Euro per night) which I would happily recommend.

Very beautiful rooms. Fine breakfast buffet. Hotel is easy to find. Plenty of free parking space. Very good sound insulation from the road. Airco is individually controllable, but mine made an irritating ticking sound even when it was off (not very loud). Bathroom is also very beautiful, but shower cabin was a bit small for me and the water temperature varied quite a bit during use. Shower and toilet from one neighbouring room were very clearly audible from my room.

A Home from Home

We have just returned from a family holiday which included a visit to Salzburg, and a stay in the Best Western Hotel Zum Hirschen.

This hotel exceeded all our expectations. The staff were friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much bother, even to the extent that the young gentleman and young lady on reception took the time and trouble to explain where I could go jogging.

Our room was extremely comfortable, spacious, and decorated to a high standard. The air conditioning was an especially welcome feature.

We had our evening meal in the garden restaurant on two occasions, and the food was simply outstanding. Breakfast was another enjoyable experience, with a fine array of foods available. Indeed we were very pleasantly surprised to see the inclusion of organic produce.

Our only regret is that we could not have stayed longer. A sincere thank you to everyone at the Zum Hirschen for making us so welcome. It was certainly a home from home, and we are all agreed that we would like to return in the not too distant future.

Top Local Tips for Salzburg

Salzburg Card As soon as you arrive at hotel, buy a Salzburg Card. Saves lots of money on public transport and site seeing attractions. Children loved going on the trams each day.

Salzburg Card We had the 48 hour Salzburg card and definetly saved money with this! They can be obtained at the train staion but we had bought them over the internet so as to pay in advance so if you do this bring a copy of the receipt because they will need to keep it as proof you had paid. This was of no problem except I only had one copy and I needed it for the card I had bought in Vienna and Innsbruck so bring a copy for each city.

Augustiner Brau, Beer Keller The location and the building are fabulous, but the service was aggressive and unpleasant. When you arrive, you pay first for your drinks. The assistant took the money for two beers and two fantas, he told me to take four cups and that to fill them was the same price no matter what drink you had. However when I presented the receipt and took two small bottles of fanta the barman insisted that I take four beers as that what I had paid for. He was barking at me and shaking his head. I said that I didn't want beer for the children, he snatched them away and pointed at the fantas. When we got to the table our cups of beer were full of foam. I was totally disgusted and rather surprised that the hundreds of Austrian and German customers would accept half a glass of beer. People in the UK certainly wouldn't and I am certain that if a British barman treated a visitor in such a manner that other staff and customers would come to their defence. Leave this establishment for the locals!
