Top Local Tips for Ehenbichl Reute
Castles - not worth the hype or the ticket price! Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau - the world famous castles of Mad King Ludwig were built less than two centuries ago and while they look magnificent on the hilltop are incredibly dull and contrived to visit. I would HIGHLY recommend going by the castles if you're in the vicinity. They are great to look at, the hike to Mary's Bridge (Marienbrucke) is pretty cool and parking, etc. is easier than expected. Inside the castles, however is a complete and total bore. There are legitimate castles and similar attractions all across Europe that have genuine histories and amazing stories - this simply felt like a tourist attraction. In my opinion, skip the tickets and instead enjoy the scenery, the lake, the hikes and the people watching - so many tourists!!!
Take Gabi's advice! Gabi told us that we should wait to go to Neueschwanstein until the end of the day. So we skipped doing the gliding which we really wanted to do because we thought we might not get into the castles (which were a little disappointing anyway). However we would have had plenty of the time. Listen to Gabi not the guide books!
