Can't begin to explain what a fantastic time we had. Apart from the superb skiing, the Palarine is a fantastic place to stay, the owners and staff are 110% friendly and helpful. Food is superb (including full english breakfast) and the booze just flowed forever !!! - STAY HERE AND YOU WILL BE BACK !! |

| Basil Fawlty alive and well in Andorra! |

We had an overnight stop in the Hotel Babot, on arrival there was no-one in reception, so we hung around waiting for someone to appear. Finally a tall balding man appeared at the desk, he was very unwelcoming! A gruff request for our passports and a room key was handed over. Our room was very acceptable, the view from the balcony was fantastic; the room had obviously not been used for sometime, as it was very stuffy and the smell from the bathroom was stagnant to say the least; we opened all doors to air the room which improved things a little. We made the most of the afternoon sun on the terrace, we managed to find our own way. In the evening we decided to have a drink in the bar, only to find that the unhelpful reception man was now manning the bar! we received the same gruff responses. Perhaps the evening meal would offer a better service. We noticed that the other guests were making their way to the Restaurant, so we followed, we took a vacant table, no one was around to show us where to sit. The Receptionist/Barman was now the Head Waiter! who was taking orders for the meal, the choice was very limited - this or that. The starter was pretty boring, however the main course?!? had to be seen to be believed, I had ordered the fish dish, The choice was either fish or chicken. What arrived was two small cutlets of fish and two slices of potato, which was actually half a potato cut in two - no sauce that was it!
Desert was a slice of gateau from the local supermarket! We left after a buffet breakfast, which was better presented. Our unhelpful receptionist/barman/waiter was back on duty as we left to check out, he was being just as unhelpful to another guest who was asking for information. Our bill was handed to me and payment made, I smiled and wished him a good day and do believe for the first time he half responded.
Hotel Babot is in a lovely location but managed badly, which is a shame for what should have been a pleasant stay was an ordeal. |
