Excellent Food in Panama City Stay at the Bristol and take day trips to places such as Gamboa. The hotel is better than any of the resorts and less expensive. It's small and intimate. They will do anything to help you. They even serve good champagne by the glass.

Madam Chang's Based on restaurant reviews we read prior to our trip, we made a point to have a meal at Madam Chang's. I am an Asian food geek. While the food was so-so, I would never eat there again. We went for lunch and based on many past experiences elsewhere ... This restaurant was WAY over-priced for lunch. I have no idea what their prices are for dinner. The doorman and wait staff were very pleasant. However, the price for our lunch was totally outrageous. We are also accustomed to soup and/or egg roll accompanying a lunch. Lunch here was all ala carte even down to tea. Again, it was OK, but not great especially when the cost is taken into consideration. We will be returning to Panama as we are building a retirement home there ~ but Madame Chang has seen the last of us.

There is a Panama map for Garmin GPS units! Driving in Panama City is crazy, in a good way, I'm from Los Angeles and I loved driving in Panama City (but rush hour is insane). I didn't see any street signs, and the traffic lights come out of nowhere. Outside the city is a piece of cake because there are few cars on the road except on the weekend. If I had not made the very wise decision to buy, download, and install the Panama map for my Garmin GPS unit, my wife and I probably would have got lost and argued quite a bit. But we never got lost, and we never argued. If you're going to drive in Panama, get the GPS, it made our trip a breeze.
