How to Drive Out of Panama City - it's a challenge! Getting out of Panama city can be quite an adventure. Don't think a rental car company will give you a map and off you go. The first time we tried we circled in and out of Casco Viejo for over an hour. Finally I found a very kind and helpful Panamanian who gracisously led us to the Bridge of the Americas. Later we were told the easy, but unmarked route directly out of the city. If you plan on driving in Panama print out these directions. Here You Go: Take AVENIDA BALBOA southwest along the Bay of Panama. As you approach CASCO VIEJO watch for a Shell Gas Station on your right. Just past and beside the station take a right turn (N/NW). You will come to a busy intersection with a traffic light. Once you pass through the intersection get in the left hand lane and take the on-ramp. It seems a little odd because the ramp is on your left. It feels like you are going the wrong way up an exit ramp. Above you will see a sign, PUENTE DE LAS AMERICAS. They charge what you look like you'll pay Taxi drivers will charge you basically what you look like you will pay. Do not pay anymore than $4.00 or $5.00 to get downtown from hotel. Taxi service at hotel is more expensive than walking down the street and catching a taxi!
spanish It's helpful if you know some spanish. Definitely, speak with the driver before getting into the cab. You can rent a driver for about 10/hr and they will wait for you whereever you go. Check out the SUMMIT Botanical garden near Gamboa.
