Top Local Tips for Granada
Kayaking in the Islands of Granada By far the best way of exploring the minimundus of the little islands south of Granada is going by Kayak. At the very southern end of Granada's beach, i.e. directly linked to the island archipelago, there is the VELAGO SAILING SCHOOL where you can rent Kayaks to go on your own or take a guided tour. The Kayaks are easy to handle and cannot turtle. A three hours rental for example costs 15 Dolars per person. One can reach the sailing school by bike, taxi or walking (about 45 minutes from the city center)
Zip-line tour through the tree canopy on Mombacho valcano A must do tour. The ride up was half the fun, rough and bumpy. Coffee plantations and exotic birds to see. Our guide stopped for us to watch the howler and white faced monkeys playing in the trees. He picked a cocoa pod and opened it for us to taste the fruit inside. He explained how the remaining seeds were dried for the cocoa. The guides were serious about safety yet made sure we had a fun time. We were tethered to the guide lines at all times. You need to climb up to the platform and will be repelled down from the last very large tree. Great fun. Well worth it.
