Top Local Tips for Guatemala City

Destination? I'm not sure GUA is a destination, as such. I stayed there while enroute elsewhere because that's where the airport is. So from the airport it's about an hour by car to Antigua. From there we went to Copan via mini van, and from there via mini van back to GUA overnight to fly out next a.m. to Tikal, and a day later back to GUA from Tikal to catch a noonish flight back to states. Really didn't see much of the city except for the central market, which was fun.

Hassle free airport Arriving and departing was easy, but there is a small departure tax for local and international flights - (40 Quetzals). Excellent shopping once through departure gate. For flights that leave early there is simple, reasonably priced breakfast fare available from departure area with excellent local coffee. The whole airport is being upgraded.
