Top Local Tips for Tamarindo

Gratuities We noticed that in every restaurant we went to they now put "service" on the bill. This is the gratuitiy and can be up to 18% so read your bills carefully.

Tortugas are great, but.... If you're going to visit Tamarindo, check the time of year when the baulas (leather back sea turtles) are at the beaches. While it may be amazing to try to see them, they are very well protected and visiting beaches when they are present is prohibited. Keep that in mind when planning your trip. If you have hopes of spending the whole trip playing on the beach, you may want to go somewhere else when the baulas are around.
