Top Local Tips for San Jose

Iberia office The Iberia office has moved to near the airport and all the guidebooks are out of date. None of the taxi drivers recognise the address given on the Iberia website, so you have to drive around looking for it.

Currency Great exchange rate in the hotel or in the banks in Costa Rica. Exchange for some colons at home but do the rest in Costa Rica. For some reason it is so much better there without paying any fees and you get the full value.

postoffice I usually like to go to a regular post office for stamps. Buying them in a shop sometimes you are overcharged and you may not get the correct postage. The San Jose post office downtown is a beautiful building, includes a postal museum, and there is also a philatelic office where you can buy stamps separate from the main windows and get unusual stamps and also exact postage for postcards etc. The lines are probably shorter also.
