Top Local Tips for San Jose

Check out Restaurant Machu Picchu Excellent ambiance, great food, friendly and helpful staff (great recommendations). Try pisco sour (alcoholic apperative), aji de gallina (main), cause limena (appetizer), chica morada (non-alcoholic beverage). Simply outstanding!

Exchanging Money at Airport At the San Jose Airport, do NOT use the money exchange service in the Departures or Luggage Pickup Area -- the rate they give is terrible -- the worst I saw anywhere. Instead, after luggage & customs, go upstairs to the departure gates. On the far right is a branch of Banco de San Jose (BAC | San Jose), which gives the standard good exchange rate -- easiest way to exchange money and then get on your way. Pay cash (Colones if possible, but otherwise USD) everywhere -- people appreciate it.

Are there any??? San Jose is a great place to stop for a shower and buy a nic-nac after visiting the cloud forest. Didn't see too much there to excite or inspire. There's a couple of nice museums and the central market is kind of cool. We were there for three days. One too many I think.
