Irish Pub On the road south from Puerto Viejo there is an Irish Pub that is more of a reggae hang-out than a traditional Irish bar. The drinks are cheap, the food is good, and the owners are very friendly. I recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Costa rica adventure The Puerto Viejo is for people who want a relaxed, laid back adventure and don't mind the lack of creature comforts. From San Jose it is a long trip, but the the Costa Rican transportation system is fantastic...once you figure it out. If you don't want to rent a car and drive yourself (I'd really give this second thougjhts) then take the Inter Connect.
