You must go The wildlife there is so wodnerful. make sure you bring some extra water and get there warly so you can see all of the different animals there. Also, make sure you bring a camera!

Hire a guide It is worth hiring a guide from the Makanda because if you are on your own you will miss the animals. They are well camoflaged and the guides know where they are in the trees. We saw 4 sloths only because the guide pointed them out as well as iguanas, lizards, bats, toads, birds etc.

Oh boy, it's touristy The park is nice, we saw monkeys, sloths & agoutis (wihtout a guide) but this was by far the most touristy place we've been in Costa Rica (more than tamarindo & La Fortuna). You get beach vendors, improvised paying parking, hyper active surf rental shops, tons of hotels and restaurants... Don't get me wrong, it's still beautifull (made us think of bit about Krabi beach in Thailand) but oh boy, it's not your familiar laid back Costa Rica.
