Not worth the travel there The Monteverde Cloud Forest itself was only mildly interesting-but if you go, GO EARLY as wldlife and birds are most acitve. then We spotted several rare birds with our guide, who was fantastic. A few monkeys and one sloth were also spotted. This experience could be replicated elsewhere in the country as cloud forests are not limited to this area, we were told. Our skywalk tour was a nice experience and again our guide was exceptional. The hanging bridges and flora were quite picturesque. Overall, however, we would suggest skipping this area entirely in favor of beach-based excursions if wildlife viewing is paramount. Someone recommended staying at the Selva Verde Lodge. We understand it is along a river and quite a nice area to visit in lieu of Monteverde.

Must see the Cloud Forest Reserve Do join a group tour of the reserve. Groups are small (around 8 people) and are led by naturalist guides who carry spotting scopes to help you see the amazing wildlife. We would have missed so much had we just walked on our own.
