Capricorn Restaurant GO! Must make reservations at this fantastic joint. Take a water taxi up and enjoy a delicious meal by the sea. Apparently, the seafood special of the day is always recommended. Save room for the key lime pie, though!!! For what great food it is, the price is right, too. But considered 'high end' on Ambergris Caye!

Think about where you are going! We went with some close friends and would have had a good time in prison as long as we were together. Make certain you check out Belize or wherever you go. Ambergris Caye is very limited in things to do........if you dive,fish,drink,sleep and eat and can do this for a few days in a row then you will be fine. The roads are baby powder dusty so it felt like I needed a shower everytime I went to town. Renting of the golf carts sounds great but there is really no place to go after about an hour or two so you just drive around sweating and then the baby powder dust sticks to you. The airplane ride from Belize City is not non-stop and the plane is very hot, can be bumpy, and close to the earth most of the time. It seemed to me there was very little room for error on the flight. As close to the earth as they flew, if the engine coughed at the wrong time the adventure may pick up. Ambergris Caye will be a top destination for a vacation someday, but it wasn't yesterday!

Come for the water activities - not the beaches! We're not really pool people (especially when we're staying on the Ocean!), but the beaches on the Cayes are pretty much non-existent. There's a lot of sea grass in the water, and, since the reef keeps the water very shallow, the temperature can be almost too warm. If you're looking for the kind of holiday with big, wide, white sand beaches where you can sit on the beach and walk straight into beautiful water, this isn't the place to go. On the other hand, the diving is very good, and there's a good variety of other water activities (snorkeling, kayaking, etc..). Serious divers should definitely take day trips to the Blue Hole and Turneffe.
